I blame Trump.
This has been news for a couple days, but I hadn't seen anything posted here on the subject. I think many people suspected that the KHL is hurting financially, but this confirms the suspicion. The KHL is folding Metallurg Novokuznetsk and is behind paying some players to the tune of 17 million. The beginning of the end of the KHL as we know it?

As I said in the Kovalchuk thread, this is nothing new. The KHL has been cutting teams every year, and they've had teams being behind in salaries every year as well. That league has never been very healthy to begin with. They've been losing money every year, and they're not even trying to make money with the league. They're spending much more than what they can make but they don't really care about that. They want to get star players there and they want to expand the league even when it doesn't make any sense financially.
Also the reason that the Croatian team pulled out (why for the love of me can I not remember their name but I remember Danny Taylor is in nets for them lol). Not sure this is anything new as it is a league full of Russian play things and about status more than a viable financial league - will still have its appeal to older NHL'ers wanting to go home or bubble guys looking for pay outs
Experience is the teacher of all things.
And this is supposed to be the second best hockey league in the world. Status plummeting!!!
