    I don't think Orlov will sign in the KHL. The 1-year deal and Olympics could make a bit of sense...but given he has been playing on short-term deals, I think he'll want a longer-term deal with some security. And I just don't see him signing long-term in the KHL. I think Washington lets Alzner walk and finds a way to sign Orlov.

    FWIW, if I was a player in no danger of "losing my spot" in the NHL, I'd sign a 1 year Olympic deal.

    Not like Washington won't welcome Orlov back a season from now.

    No one in their right mind would sign a 1 year Olympic deal.

    Imagine signing a one year deal in the KHL and then having a career injury.

    That's a lot more likely in football than it is in hockey. Career ending injuries in hockey are pretty rare. Olympic gold medals last forever (he's obviously not winning the cup in Washington lol).

    That might make more sense for a player that's already had a big pay day. Orlov has been on small, short-term deals. I've read a number of articles that mention he is looking for financial security and stability.
