sounds like you're writing off this as a quality league? I agree that Makar would not be my take at #3, I'd prefer a few forwards over him in a fantasy draft... but AJHL, BCHL etc. produce quite a few quality NHL'ers

I do not think writing off a league is proper in evaluating prospects, but you have to take weaker leagues + high scorers with a grain of salt.

But players who came from the AJHL (well played there) with some quick 2 minute research:
    Dany Heatley
    Mike Comrie
    Sutter brothers (so 70's/80's haha)

you can add, Hartnell, Souray, Upshal, Scrivens, Raymond, Letestu, Phillips, MacArthur, someone named Braden Holtby to your list as active players...

Babych, Playfair, Reinprecht, Mike Vernon, Malarchuck, Hirsch and someone named Mark Messier.. a brief list of notables.

    Sorry.

    Not writing off the league.

Also not heavily weighing being a PPG Dman in that league as a clear indicator of NHL offensive success.

He had an NHLe of about 17 points this season. Right now I'd put his upside as being a 30-35 point defenseman. That's.....not that valuable.

The lack of love for Pettersson and Glass leave me scratching my head.

Lack of love for Pettersson? I am not sure there's a lack of love for Pettersson but it's more a realistic view that no one considers him a top 5 fantasy pick, let alone a top 5 pick in real life either. Sure, the kid has a chance to be a decent NHL player but he's no fantasy top 5 pick, and that's what this thread is all about.

This is a tough one. Here's my list:

Mittlestadt: lots of upside here. I'd take him at #3

Makar: again, I see lots of upside here. I'd try fit him in at 4 or 5.

Vilardi: this is the guy I'm unsure of. He seems like the safe pick of the bunch. I feel like his name has been around the longest which has resulted in him not being labeled 'prospect on the rise', which is an attractive label.

Heiskenan: I actually really like this guy and if he goes to Colorado or Vancouver, he's even more attractive. He's a prospect on the rise.

Glass: this guy interests me a lot as he's really risen up. I've having trouble with who I'd choose between Glass and Vilardi. The Glass comparisons to Johansen and Schiefle are attractive.

Guys that I'm not overly big on at the moment, but that could change after the entry draft: Tippett, Suzuki, Liljeren.

    Pardon my spelling throughout...

I have picks 3 and 4 in my one league and I feel similarly. I'm fairly sold on Mittlestadt at 3, but then between Glass and Vilardi at 4 is what's giving me a hard time. My head says Vilardi but my gut says Glass.

I'm not as sold on Mittelstadt as some seem to be for reasons mentioned above and beyond in other articles... Not to say he shouldn't be a top (5-10) pick but he seems more risky than...

...Vilardi and Glass at 3 and 4 -- the two that I'd be taking with a big grin on my face.

Bob McKenzie tweeted yesterday that one of the 10 NHL scouts he spoke with has Cale Makar as him #1 in this year's draft.

just realized this was a fantasy ranking, do not pick a D top 5, if you really want to it would be makar but i think it's still a stretch at that point.

as others have said vilardi/mittle/glass seem to be the best picks at 3-5, and you can finalize your decision after seeing where they land in real life.
