Give P. Kane for Kucherov in Points Only? REP Given

Got a chance to turn Kane into Kucherov in a keeper. Should I do it? Kane is awesome, but he's finishing his prime and Kucherov is coming into his. Or am I being crazy and overvaluing youth?

If this is a salary cap league then yes.

If not... I would try getting a little bit more with Kucherov (a slight uptick in picks or something)

Reason being is that Kucherov is good, but when Stamkos comes back there is less puck to go around...

This might also help Kucherov increase points, but it might also decrease points cause Stamkos will be involved more.

With Kane, you know what you are getting because there are no significant lineup changes like Stamkos coming back and all the RFA concerns.

There is no salary cap. I'm really only thinking about age. Is it worth it to probably lose points for the next few years while Kane is better to keep Kucherov long term? I won't be able to get a pick upgrade or anything out of him. Think Kucherov will continue to be a top winger for the next bunch of years? Think he's peaked yet?

Personally I'm not against this deal, but I agree with penguinhunter, see if you can get something a little extra. Even dropping from 100+ pts Kane was still right with Kucherov this year and I don't see Kucherov winning a scoring title or topping 100pts again.

in this nhl, it's really difficult to say if someone who put up 85pts has peaked or not. Next season they could put up 90 or 70, just as easily. I really like Kuch, but Kane has B2B 90+ pt seasons. With his style of play - non-physical - he's limiting the physical punishment his body is taking. He's got another 5 years I would safely project of being an elite forward. Kucherov may have 8-10 years, but no one should be looking that far out into the future. In a points only, in this situation, yes, I think you're overvaluing youth. Would you trade Crosby for Kucherov 1-1? Likely not. So why trade Kane who's stayed healthier & outpointed Sid both seasons for him? In points only Kane should be viewed as #2 behind only McDavid IMO.

Again he's 28. I wouldn't worry about a drop off. I like kucherov but in this setting in not giving up kane without a little extra

Personally, I'd hold Kane... enjoy the next couple years production (3, maybe 4) then trade him for an Ehlers + type of package - high end NHL ready youth that have just not taken off yet. Two years ago you could have gotten Kuch ++ for Kane...

I think you are over thinking age. Kane is still the #1 guy on Chicago, never has any major injury, and has amazing chemistry with Panarin. If you move him for Kucherov now it'll be pretty sideways of a move. I think short term Kane will still out point Kucherov (by like 10-20) over 3 years, and after that Kucherov may pull ahead. So wait to move Kane until he is over 30 at the least

Some players you just need to keep. When Kane puts up 92pts this year and Kucherov 78... who are you going to rather have? be happy you have 25yr old Kuch, or be missing 29yr old Kane? I get the 30+ stigma - but if that's how your league operates.. exploit it.

Yeah but I doubt that'll happen to Kane due to the above factors, plus he had rest early this year. It is up to you.

You honestly sound like you want Kucherov because he is younger so you should make the trade haha. I found whenever I made posts like this I wanted to be convinced NOT to make the deal while I wanted to make it deep down. So make the deal, but I would hold Kane myself

Haha, I don't think I knew that's what I was doing when I started this, but I think you're right. I've only owned Kane a week, so I have no connection with drafting him or anything. Kane is the oldest of my very good keeper group, so that's a part of why I'm thinking Kuch. Hoping to keep my so do open for longer. I'll update you if it happens!

Sidney Crosby is 29 and well into that age at this point already and he seems just fine. Elite players of their caliber don't exactly just drop off in late twenties they possess the skill, speed, vision and anticipation that keeps them on top for longer than those reliant upon physical gifts i.e. a Marian Gaborik.
