Jost+ for Montour+

I trade: Tyson Jost and Ilya Samsonov
I receive: Brandon Montour, Thatcher Demko
I do like Jost, but I think if Montour can turn into a 45 point defenseman, he'll be much more valuable to me than Jost even if Jost turns into a 60 point forward.. I'm also deep at D but don't have a bunch of top end talent. This would give me Nurse, Montour, McAvoy, Dumba, Provorov and DeAngelo, if one or two pan out I'll be set on D for years.
I also think Samsonov is the superior talent, but with years left to wait, and with Holtby only being 27, it could be a while before he pays off. Demko could take over in 2018/19.

Right now the only prospect forwards I have are Kaprizov, Jost, and Boeser. My forwards are pretty young though with guys like Mackinnon, Tarasanko, Drouin, Toffoli and Horvat. Even my higher end older forwards are somewhat young with Tavares, Voracek, Kadri, Kane, Panarin.
I don't have any picks in this years draft though.

Do it. I think you get more than you give here, especially with Demko who should be in an ideal position to take over rather sooner than later. Of course Gs are voodoo, but he's as good a bet as you can have and will probably cost way more in half a year or so...
I never give too much attention on wether I'm already deep on some position with my prospects or not. No need to balance out my farm - just go for the best talent that could later land you as high a return as possible in case you need to swing a deal to balance out your main roster... So in your deal Montour and Demko easily top out the other side of the bargain (and I'm saying this while I own Jost, too...).

I agree with your assessment on the goalies - samsonov is the better talent, but is years away. demko is in a great position to take over in Vancouver fairly soon.
and I think Montour is going to be one of the top fantasy defencemen very soon. jost is going to be much better in real life than fantasy, in the mold of jonathan toews. I would definitely do this deal.

I agree with Wotan on the goalies. Demko has a clear path and there's less risk involved than with waiting a few more years on Samsonov. Also, the knock on Demko's value is the team in front of him, but by the time Samsonov is emerging in WSH, who knows what his team will look like...
Montour is also poised to rise on a blueline that will likely lose a man to LV and has the depth to trade another to replace aging forwards soon. Montour has actually been playing on their top pairing with Fowler at times anyway.
I'd take the deal knowing there's a potential loss on Jost.

I prefer Jost over Montour. Goalies are voodoo and both of the goalies in the deal are high end prospects. Demko is closer but Samsonov might be more talented. Adding McAvoy for Chabot makes the deal worse in my opinion.
I would pass on the offer.

Montour vs Jost - depends on how D-men are valued vs forwards in your league. I think I'd rather have Montour in most leagues, though.
Samsonov vs Demko - Samsonov is the better talent but Demko has a clear path to be a starting goalie, although he'll probably need 2-3 years at least to get there and Vancouver is in horrible situation.
McAvoy vs Chabot - I like Chabot more for fantasy hockey purposes.

I too agree with this. I would make the original deal, but if McAvoy/Chabot got added then it's a no.

Looking at your sig and scoring categories my take is:
Montour over Jost. I don't see this is being overly close in my opinion.
Samsanov vs Demko. High end prospect goalies rarely drive a team from bad to good. Markstrom while once the top end prospect has played for brutal teams. Many others thrived in better situations. This one is a wash. Depends on what each organization does.
I like Chabot over McAvoy but not by a ton. Both should see good minutes next year barring any unforeseen circumstances.
Original deal was a slam dunk IMO.
Second deal is too close to call.
