Yup, that's what matters. Both acts are the same in my eyes and deserve the same kind of penalty.

I guess the nhl doesn't value nuts that much.

So if the were LBGTQ nuts would that be 12,000, or 14,000 (2 per nut)? It must have been when he yelled at the ref. I have not seen him that pissed in a long time. I am pretty sure his anger was justified, although the comment is not. That makes 2 in a few days, after Pillar in Toronto. I do find it amazing that you can use all kinds of language and derogatory remarks, yet some are off-limits. As a father, I sometimes find the off-limits word are the ones that people choose o use in order to elicit specific reactions. Plus with HD TV and on ice microphones, there is no more separation between the rink/court/arena and the public. Good luck to whoever makes these decisions........ Sounds like it is just easier to spear him in the nuts.

The NHL's fans don't care about a guy's nuts. In fact, in general, that's part of the product.

They can't afford to have their brand be portrayed as tolerant of the language Getzlaf used. If the NHL really cared themselves, you can bet they'd issue more than a fine equating to pocket-change for a millionaire player. The second fine just needs to be viewed as more punitive.

Really, we're talking about the difference between a nickel and a dime to him, it's all public perception.

I am completely ok with it. To be honest, I would prefer Getzlaf getting suspended for it. There should be no tolerance for that kind of thing.

To his credit, Getzlaf responded to it well and took responsibility for it, and made what I would consider to be a sincere apology for his actions.

There is a big difference between what Andrew Shaw said last year and what Ryan Getzlaf said in this year's playoffs which is why one guy was suspended and one was only fined.
