This has developed out of the prospect swap I was working on and posted about a few days ago. Time to get Montour before the price gets inflated with all the hype he is beginning to receive.

My Hertl, Slavin and Mat Barzal for his Burakovsky and Montour

Cant keep Slavin, he doesnt make my top 26.

Feels like a no-brainer, but I thought I should run it by the board for due diligence.

At first glance I like the deal for you.

Burakovsky > Hertl.

But your D is so stacked that I would probably keep Barzal over Montour.

If it was me, I'd make the deal and look to flip Montour.

I'm trading Letang at some point in the next 6 months. If Schultz doesnt re-sign with Pittsburgh he's gone too. Montour can be kept on the farm for 150 games so I have a couple years to play with before I have an opening for him. Sergachev is currently my only farm D, and I wont be drafting any D in my prospect draft. I am taking Hischier at #2 and the good D will all be gone before I draft again at #8.

Montour is the key piece in the deal for me. Have had my eye on him for a couple of years, didnt really expect to have to go get him this early, but the hype train is revving up and his cost is going to rise. Not looking to deal him, bringing him in to keep him and enjoy the ride.

I like this deal for you too, but think that Barzal could be the gem of the deal. He is, however, a couple years away from being that guy, so I would still make the deal.

Being stacked on d is no bad thing if there is a market to sell too... I'm not the biggest Hertl fan so I think it makes sense in this scenario to go after Bura, especially if Slavin is a drop anyway

if you cannot keep Slavin then by all means yes, unfortunate really the dude was a pillar for me in the title run this season so underrated.

Burakovsky side for sure. Many people see him exploding next season. And rightfully so. He's going to be in that top 6 next year and his P60 at 5v5 are top 15 in the league. His 16-17 #'s remind me a lot of Pastrnak's 15-16 #'s.
More ice time, more PP time + a high 5v5 P60 = breakout year.

Burak over Hertl. Especially in Wsh where they look like they're opening up at least 2 top 6 spots. If you can hold onto Montour on the farm for a while yet all the better

everybody else said all there is to say, although i will add that Barzal could be the gem of this trade, but not for a couple years.

I... got here too late.
I like the Tomas Hertl side.
We've talked some on the forums about Bura's increase in TOI/scoring if Oshie/J.Will leave.
What about Hertl?
Looks like the team is about to move on from Thornton and Marleau.
SJ has, quite possibly, the most fixed/dynamic PP in the NHL over the last 2 years, a 4F/1D PP unit that ALWAYS included Burns + Pavelski, Couture, Thornton, Marleau.
So what happens if/when Thornton/Marleau are left to walk???
Yup.

Tomas Hertl, IMO, is one of the best buy-lows this summer.
I think he has more upside than Burakovsky... and I'm not sold that Montour is the PP1 guy for ANA.

But, it's pretty close... I just think people are getting hung up on the two players in the deal that have been thrust into our eyes over last two weeks from playoffs.

We'll have to track this one and see how it pans out.
It's always interesting to be the lone wolf on one side of a trade analysis.

Really like the deal for you, and I actually dealt Hertl about two months ago for Montour, that's how much I liked him even then. It's a great deal for you now.

Question though, who do you now have to deal as you show Hertl as a non-keeper, where Burakovsky obviously will be?
