Beyond sad for me and those my age (35-50). In my opinion, perhaps the best all-around frontman since Freddie Mercury.

Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Mother Love Bone, Stone Temple Pilots, and now Soundgarden have all lost their frontmen far, far too soon.

Wonder how it happened, I've just read "sudden and unexpected".

    Always loved Audioslave too.

Man he had a good sound to him.
That was a good era to grow up in, musically.
    RIP.

Such horrible news to wake up to. In my opinion, maybe the greatest lead singer of all time. It's a sad day for music. RIP.

Given his age and past, I'd think sudden and unexpected most likely means drugs or, much less likely but still I guess possible, suicide.

I have heard early reports suggest suicide. So devastating if true.

I never had a chance to see Cornell live, but having been to a STP gig in the 90s, I figured he'd have a similar energetic presence as I witnessed with Scott Weiland.

I dread the day where I see Mike Patton (Faith No More) in the main news.

Man. So many celeb deaths in the past two years. This one feels different for some reason. I was a larger STP fan, but loved SG, AS and CC's. Solo stuff...

my my wedding song was even Finally Forever from his 'Carry On' solo album

    Devastating news.

One of the most unique voices in all of music IMO.

Det. police investigating as possible suicide:

Cornell’s wife called a family friend and asked him to check on Cornell. Woody says the friend forced open a hotel room door and found Cornell on the bathroom floor.

Police spokesperson Michael Woody tells The Associated Press on Thursday morning that he can’t provide details on what led investigators to make that determination, but noted there were “basic things observed at the scene.”

Brutal news boys. Always been a 90s rock fan and Soundgarden Superunknown was always one of my favourites.

Top 3 SG songs: Superunknown, My Wave, Rhinosaur. (Honour mention: Blow up the Outside World, Let me Drown, Like Suicide.)
