Nurse just became that much more important to the club. And maybe a guy like Griffin Reinhart uses this opportunity to make himself a regular...

Reinhart is a bust. Oilers will sign a top 4D via FA or trade for one using their 1st round pick.

Jesse Puljujarvi a healthy scratch for Finland...again.
    And the hits keep coming.

Not that RT can't defend himself, but this seems to be your go-to reply when someone makes a comment about the Oilers that you don't like.

I'm not sure he can even skate backwards.

Really, though, this is crappy luck for the Oilers and makes a tight off-season market for d-men even tighter (should they choose to find outside help).

How is this a hit against the Oilers? He was in the AHL.

Losing Sekera hurts more than Puljujarvi getting scratched.

Pretty much secures Kris Russell getting re-signed now. I can see them signing another D this off-season but one has to think that was the plan all along anyway. I am not sure if Markov is that guy or not but it will be someone. Maybe Karl Alzner fits in there as a possibility better than Markov.

I thought of Alzner, but he'll likely be able to command more dollars and, in particular, more years, than the Oilers likely are willing to give. Meanwhile, landing Markov probably would take only $8-10M over 2 years, if even that much.

Because years and dollars stopped them from signing Lucic?

Chiarelli doesn't care much about longterm since he likely won't be around. He needs the Oilers to win now and if he feels Alzner will do that he will have no problem overpaying.

A trade certainly isn't out of the question either. They have depth down the middle and you can bet they are still looking for that right-handed PP guy.

I think Lucic having played with the Bs helped land him with Edmonton, plus the desire to have arguably the guy most NHL players consider the toughest or most feared in the league there to watch McDavid's back.

I read Alzner is looking for $6 million. He's good, but that's a heck of a lot...

Too bad about Sekera, always have had a soft spot for him.

Really do hope the Oilers find a good replacement, hopefully via trade.
