No one dares?
Good afternoon, I'm looking for some opinions of who the 2017 draftees might be comparable to. I've heard Hischer being compared to Ehlers for example. I'm asking in terms of upside mainly. So for Makar, let's not say Erik Karlsson just because they are both good offensively
Hischer -
Patrick -
Mittlestadt -
Makar -
Valiardi -
Heiskanen -
Glass -
Lilijegren -
Tippett -
Tolvanen -
Rasmussen -
Necas -
Pardon my spelling.
Thank you in advance.

I've heard Patrick compared to guys like Getzlaf and I've read that he likes to consider himself a Toews type player for what that's worth.
10 Team, Points Only, Cash League

Stamkos, Tavares, Eichel, Mercer, JRobertson, RThomas, Kucherov, Nugent-Hopkins, Tuch, KConnor, Necas, Point, Konecny, SJarvis, Cozenz, Morrissey, Bouchard, Josi, Novak, Tolvanen, Peterka, Brink

I'm not good at comparables. But just looking at their pre-draft stats and using those as an indicator of baseline "expected production" in the NHL using the Behind The Net methodology (which assumes that the style of game they play won't have to be adjusted etc etc), I'd beg them in this kind of range for NHL-matured expected production:
Hischer - 30G, 65P
Patrick - 35G, 70P
Mittlestadt - 35G, 65P
Makar - 10G, 40P
Vilardi - 35G, 70P
Heiskanen - 15G, 45P
Glass - 20G, 60P
Lilijegren - 5G, 40P
Tippett - 35G, 65P
Tolvanen - 30G, 60P
Rasmussen - 30G, 60P
Necas - ??
(note that the Behind the Net Methodology is built off of the CHL, and modified to fit other leagues -- so confidence in these results should be much higher for CHL players than non-CHL players. Big post-draft jumps forward in development [a la Getzlaf] are also not captured.)
Hischer - Grioux, on ice vision, creativity
Patrick - Toews....not elite in any specific area...but has no significant flaws in any area either, and a leader.
Mittlestadt - Don't know enoug h about him
Makar - Letang...dynamic offensively.
Valiardi - MArk Stone
Heiskanen - I seen somewhere say he has a complete game similar to Lindstrom.
Glass - His winterhawks coach compares him to Johansen
Lilijegren - Upside is Karlsson... great skater, great offensive vision... lacks defensive side of game... but so did Karlsson for a while.. this is an extreme case.
Tippett - Perry, net front prescence, goal-scorer, needs work on skating
Tolvanen - Don't know enough about
Rasmussen - Carter?
Necas - Zuccarello?
If Patrick is as good as his uncle, he is going to have a very long and fine career

Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.
Tippett.....great skater, great shot.......needs to work on every other aspect of his game.
i believe the common comparison for tippett is kyle okposo.
also, a very good comparison i saw for cale makar is Brandon Montour. craig button actually does compare him to erik karlsson, but assuming no one will be as good as him (except for maybe dahlin next year), makar and Montour play very similar games. and both of their offensive ceilings are very high.

WOW...comprehensive list - thanks! I don't understand why many folks say this is a weak draft year. Sure, there are no generational talents like the last couple of years but if some of these comparables work out, there is some solid value there.
Thanks again for sharing pharling!
these comparable are for style, not necessarily point production
