I second this, as I too have the 1st overall pick in my league and will be quite interested in everyone's opinion about this.

I'm sure there will be plenty more "Nico vs Nolan" threads as we get closer to the draft.

I am leaning towards whoever lands in NJ myself. I just think there is already too much competition in PHI.
At this point I haven't seen enough if either of them so it could be all I use aside from what I read.

I can see that point. I personally think that whoever ends up in Philly will have a better D-core to insulate them plus Coots will be fully on the hardest assignments and G after him. The only problem with that right now is Filppula but he just has one year. Regardless, the pressure won't be nearly as big in Philly, whoever they get can mature at a slower pace.

Just my opinion to your take

i think whoever ends up in Philly ends up riding shotgun to giroux on the wing for the first year either V Filpulla under contract. especially if it is Hischier because I have heard his game is more adaptable to playing wing.

Filpula doesn't concern me. He's just a stop-gap from before they "won" the lottery.

Hextall seems like a GM who will promote production. I doubt either makes real impact next season but I feel like Philly is the better environment to at least learn in.

It wont surprise me one bit if the Flyers re-sign Filppula.

I know people like to get excited as we close in on the draft but lets not forget that teams aren't expecting either of these kids to be that "generational" type of player so it wouldn't surprise me if both of the top kids go back to Jr hockey for another year, especially Patrick. He missed a lot of time this past year due to injuries and could certainly use more time. Hard to say about Hischier. I am sure both will be given every opportunity to win a job but I am not expecting anything that first year.

I guess my point is, people need to cool their jets on their expectations on the top two this year for the first couple years, especially the one who is drafted by Philly. The Devils need that bump in offense more than the player who gets drafted by Philly but both kids will need time to adjust.

Am I correct in thinking that Patrick vs Hischier is a similar debate to Matthews vs Laine from last year (although a tier below, talent-wise), in that it seems to be the "complete player" vs the purely offensive player?

Yes, I agree, from what I am hearing it is similar int he type of player comparison they are. But yes, a tier or two below for sure.
