Rantanen for me..for the same reasons as you posted...he's gonna be a cog in the main wheel..Guenther is just depth.
Long term who do you like, focussed on points?
Am I wrong to favour Rantanen? Basically how I'm thinking is that Rantanen is more of a key cog/building block while Guentzel's fate is tied to playing with Sid.
Rantanen's a couple of years younger on an obviously inferior team, but he's a guaranteed fixture on the top line for the foreseeable future. Guentzel is looking great riding with Sid, can he generate offense on a different line? I've also heard band-aid-boy worries being bantered.

Guentzel for me. Understand your concerns, but to me he top 6 all on his own. Rantanen just doesn't do it for me, don't know why.
Guentzel for me.
If he wasn't on Crosby's team I think he would be viewed as a key cog. He's that good, he's just overshadowed at the moment.

Guentzel for me too. Especially the next 2-3 years. Shouldn't be looking beyond that anyway.

Since this probably isn't a franchise changing decision I'd just go with the guy who looks better in the short to medium term. Guentzel looks like a 50+ point guy next year, and Rantanen is a great player but I just don't know what he has to work with in Colorado. If Rantanen surpasses Guentzel in points, I'll be surprised if its in the next two years. Long term it gets very mirky, I think long term I'd want Rantanen. But the further into the future we try to project the shakier the predictions get.

Guentzel for me, even though I own Rantanen. I agree with those who say that Guentzel is just being overshadowed. Rantanen seems to be developing as more of a playmaker, which doesn't bode as well on this Colorado team.

I'd keep Rantanen. Better pedigree and drafted much higher. He's shown a lot in his professional career. I think he will be a better fantasy player than Guentzel will. If its points only, it might be a wash, but if its a multicat league, I take Rantanen all day and twice on Sundays.
I see the argument for both sides.... Personally I go Pretzel... If he goes off then he probably lands Rantanen + next season

is Guentzel really "that good"? or is he good because he plays on Sids line?

These are my thoughts as well. Long term rantanen may end up as the better own. But the risk vs reward is worth taking on Pretzel for the next 2 seasons. Is pretzel that good? Who knows and who cares? He's going to get 50 plus points next year (looooow end) and is rantanen going to get much more than this? Pretzels upside is much higher the next few seasons thus the risk is worth it Imo.
If you are totally in love with rantanen trade him 1 for 1 or 1+ next season after he gets a full season with sid. Although I'm betting most people won't want to do that at then end of next year if they own pretzel.
Don't look too far ahead In fantasy. 1 to 3 years max.

I own both and I'd keep Guentzel. I watched him play enough that I think even without Crosby he'd be good. His strength is his IQ, not his physical attributes.
As others have said I don't think he has to be that good he just needs that chemistry and he has it... Yes Shery did and got a bump but it seems to me that it is just to get some size on the line with Sid and to get a better net front presence which IMO Horny offers
Experience is the teacher of all things.
Well looks like the consensus is that I made a mistake. Time will tell of course, but I'm starting to think I might have too (not that Rantanen is chopped liver, I think he's a guaranteed star ).
(2 yrs ago I traded Skinner for R.Strome and everyone was telling me I won big time. With players this age a sure thing can fade pretty quick)

I would rather own Rantanen. Players that are totally dependent on their star linemate for their value tend to be very risky and their value can drop to 0 in a flash. Tons of love for Guentzel on these boards lately, not convinced yet.
