    Default Tricky NHL GM's

Do any of you believe that GM's will send a mandate to a coach to play a player less or give him less opportunity, ahead of a contract negotiation.

Some players that might be falling victim to this are (and of course i am bias)

Colton Parayko - Great PP IQ, could be a solid option. Steady on PP2
Andre Burakovksy - Had great chemistry last season on a line with Kuzya and Williams. Now stapled to 3rd line
Shane GhostBear - All the healthty scratch bs.

Is this a thing or am i a tinfoil hat wearer? LOL

Tinfoil hat. Giving Ghost a healthy scratch won't change a single dollar of his contract this offseason. The whole season would have an impact, but not a game.

Same with the other guys. They are where they are for various reasons, not because a GM wants to save a dollar now. It's best for the GM for these guys to play really well and make the playoffs.

If the team doesn't do well, then the GM may not be there where the time to sign a new contract comes up. Generally these guys are more short sighted than anything. I understand the thought behind the concept, but I don't believe it for a second.

If anything happens to sabotage certain players it would take place in the final weeks. And I'm doubtful it would ever happen if a spot in the playoffs or a division title is up for grabs. Coaches and GMs get fired for poor results.

Agree with EB and ED - if it ever did happen it would happen where there is little impact on the GMs job... With the guys you have mentioned they are a victim of the team dynamic - it's up to the coach to find the best fit for everyone not just one or two guys

With Bura, it was a matter of burning Williams' last contract year, plus the fact that before injuries set in he formed great chemistry with Eller and Connolly.

With Ghost, it was Streit doing better than expected at the early part of the season, plus Provorov playing well, plus some message sending by the coach.

Parayko is the only one where I kind of wonder a bit thought, especially with d-man contracts these days.
