6th Keeper D Man? Provorov vs Rielly

23 players on roster, keep all.
Was planning on keeping the following D men:
Burns (1.7% of salary cap)
Josi (2.7% of salary cap)
Werenski (3% of salary cap)
Krug (3% of salary cap)
Provorov (6% of salary cap)
Just recently someone dropped Morgan Rielly to waivers and I picked him up. He would cost me 1% of salary cap to keep. 5 D men is probably the most I am comfortable keeping in this league. Anybody think he is a keeper over one of my other guys? Keeper costs increase 10% per year so Provorov will cost 10% of salary cap in 5 years, while Rielly would cost 2.7% at that point. But will Rielly be nearly as valuable as Provorov at that point? Dunno.

that is really tough as I like both players very much. Intelligence wise Provorov wins he is very cerebral but my concern is the evident decline of Giroux and Simmonds/Voracek only getting closer to 30 at this point whereas the Leafs are so young and the ascent has just begun. Overall the situation in Toronto is better so I think I would go Morgan.

In a vacuum I would go with Provorov, but it's close enough that the salary swings it the other way for me.

I am starting to sour on MR. I think he's gonna be a better IRL dman than fantasy. I'm sticking with Provorov here, even with the salary difference. But I agree with you that 5 is likely enough dmen to carry.

I love Provorov (and I own him) but the cap space difference is huge (close to 4x). If Provo is 10% and MR is 2.7% down the road, what type of player can you get with 7.5%?

Ultimately I think I want whichever guy gets better PP usage long term. But I'll be damned if I know the answer to that...
