The DobberProspects staff conducted a Mock Draft for the first round of the 2017 NHL draft. See who each writer picked for the team they scout for

Here's how I hope the draft lottery goes:
#1: Vegas (Patrick)
#2: Vancouver (Hischier)
#3: Colorado (Liljegren/Makar)

Colorado already has MacKinnon, so they don't really need Patrick or Hischier. And Arizona already has Strome/Keller/Dvorak, so they don't need those two either. Vegas and Vancouver truly need those players. It would be great if draft lottery would work like that.

In 2013, when the Av's selected MacKinnon 1st overall, they didn't need him back then either and should have taken Seth Jones (who, if you remember, most expected to go 1st overall that year) but they still took the forward. Dont assume just because they have MacKinnon that they wouldn't go with one of the two prized forwards in this years draft if given the opportunity.

No, you're totally right. That's why they shouldn't get a top-2 pick this season because then they'd just have to pick a player they don't really need. If they get a top-2 pick, they're taking Patrick or Hischier, and that player then gets stuck behind MacKinnon. That's why it would be best for everyone if they would drop to 3rd overall.

well, if the avs are going to actually trade Duchene and landeskog, then they would need a top forward in the draft, provided they're gonna get dmen in the deals for those guys. mackinnon and one of Patrick or hischier would make an awesome 1-2 punch at center.
