Default Ekblad in a Points Only league

Ekblad has had a rough year, going back to the World Cup of hockey where he suffered a tournament ending injury. He started the NHL season off slow, points wise anyways, and now is out again with a concussion.

I haven't given up on him, and plan on keeping him over Brady Skjei (first team in signature), but what can I expect from Ekblad going forward? Will he ventually be a 30, 40, 50 or 60 point defenseman? His first two seasons gave me hope for a home run, but it is beginning to feel less and less like that and more like a safe 40 point guy in his prime.

    Thoughts?

40 point D-man would be my guess. This season hasn't changed my opinion on him, I still think he'll be a #1 D-man but he's more Ryan Suter than Brent Burns.

Of course that doesn't mean he can't get 50 points some years if things go perfectly for him but on average he'll hover around 40 points in my opinion.

40 points sounds about right to me. I find Ekblad to be seriously overrated by owners in points only format.

    I really like that comparison.

30-40 pts is a safe projection. had higher hopes for him but with all these injuries one would have to wonder how it will affect him.

To add to my previous post I definitely think he has another gear but if he becomes a 45-50 point guy 6-7 years down the road it doesn't nudge his value in a points-only league.

Fully agree here - if healthy could be consistent 40pt guy but don't see much more but hasn't been able to shake injuries lately. In a points format I'd look to move him to someone who overvalues him.

He shoots like crazy (9th in the league) and Florida had an off year with the injuries. If they stay healthy I think Barkov and hubs can really improve his value next year.

He's a keep over skjei in my books as well. I drafted him this year and ended up trading him.

50 plus eventually but not next year. He's only 21. I can see him 40 on the reg as early as next year. Definite 50 plus breakout potential. Definitely more valuable in multi cat leagues right now than points only.

I've renewed this thread because Ekblad is out again (neck). In the meantime, Brady Skjei is getting lots of minutes in the Rangers blueline and power play.

I still think Ekblad bounces back and will be the more consistent of the two, but I'm throwing it out there to see if there are any contrary opinions and why!

    Give me Ekblad all day.

40-50 points will be where he stabilises, IMO.

Think JP gave the best advice right at the beginning, though CHunter is right re a cap league, I think he becomes that no1 d man in real life but tempered in fantasy
Experience is the teacher of all things.
