    Here's the direct link. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/video/insider-...rental~1064355

Technically, he didn't block a trade. He just wouldn't sign an extension with the team looking to trade for him.

Thanks newf. There was a link from the article but I was having a hard time connecting. Guess it was just my computer.

He is under contract until the end of this season. After that, for the first time in his childhood or adult hockey career, he can choose where he wants to play. More power to him.

Hes said numerous times he wants to play on the East Coast and if he gets traded to a West Coast team he wont re-sign with them so this doesnt come as a surprise.

As newf said, Im not sure you can say he blocked anything. I dont think he has any type of NTC/NMC on his current, expiring contract. Not that I can see anyway.

That's quite the spin reporting to make Shattenkirk look bad.

He has no obligation to sign a contract to help a team he's essentially done with and has no obligation or loyalty to.

Shattenkirk doesn't have a NMC or NTC clause. He physically cannot block a trade. Doug Armstrong should do a better job of negotiating and stop whining. Find a trade that isn't conditional on a contract extension.

Declined a 7 year 42 million dollar deal.

Surely he's worth more than 6M on the open market. I don't doubt he could get more than 42 million on a 7 year deal as a UFA.

Maybe slightly more, and/or you get to pick where to play. Sometimes that's more than money.

I was listening to TSN radio this morning, and they were talking about McKenzie's report saying that he has declined to sign extensions with 3 teams that have had trades in place so far. Edmonton and Tampa were 2, the third was unknown. Edmonton was much earlier on in the season, Tampa was recently.
