    Default Giroux for Horvat

For the league in my sig.

    I just traded: Giroux
    I received: Horvat, Jost

I know I'm losing the best player, and I am competing this year, but Giroux was concerning me. Is Horvat that big of a drop off from Giroux at this point?

What do we expect from Jost? While I made this move for Horvat, if Jost can turn into a 60 point player in the future I think I will this big.

    Thoughts?

I think this is a big mistake. Giroux is in a slump but this seems like a major panic/sell low move.

I think in 2 years this will be a good trade for you - Jost will be producing & Horvat will be a 65pt C...

...... but you have to wait two years.

I am a huge homer Horvat fan but I think I like the Giroux side better. I don't think Horvat has Giroux's offensive upside even at this stage in their careers but I could be wrong. I could see Giroux rebounding next year with 70+ points and Horvat still trying to scratch the surface of 60.

Giroux has multiple 70+ pt seasons. I wouldn't be surprised if horvat didn't have one by the end of his career. I'm also a vancouver local and canuck fan, and as much as I like horvat, he's not gonna be a big point producer. I'm thinking like...filpula, zajac...there are probably better examples, but those ones come to mind right now.

I think if you wanted to sell Giroux, you probably could have gotten a better return... but I could be wrong.

I am not a Canucks fan, but I'm sold on Horvat - I agree he likely will never hit 70pts, perhaps it'll happen given the right situation - mainly Boeser becoming a top line beast and on his wing for the next 10 years being primary condition #1. That said, He's going to be better and more consistent than Filpula or Zajac.

I think Bergeron production 60-65pts per season and really solid in his own zone (maybe not Bergie's level defensively). Is a serious possibility. That's why I put him passing Giroux in a two year time frame. I think Giroux is more of a 60-65pt player now - tow years and they'll become even around that bench mark.

I traded Giroux for Kadri 1-1 in a multi-cat league as I stated in a different thread. I just have a gut feeling he's going to be an early decliner - Giroux

Lucafens assessment is fair. I guess I look at it like this and I am ignoring Jost for the moment. But I see Giroux as still at 60-75 point guy and I am looking at Horvat as a 55 to 65 point guy. Then add into the fact that Giroux's name value probably still holds quite a bit more weight then I am weighing it slightly more on the Giroux side.

I think most have forgotten Jost was included in the deal. This kid is going to be a really great player in a couple years... As long as the team's goal is 2 years to start competing. It'll be fine.

There was more on the table to be had, IMO.

Since you're still competing, the Giroux side. The guy still has point per game potential, a talent that is hard to find in the NHL these days. I'm not sold on Horvat yet, his S% and on ice team S% are both a little high right now and to me he maxes out at 60. Conversely, Giroux's S% and on ice team S% are both a little low this year pointing to a bounce back and to me he's a 65-70 guy with a shot at point per game every year. So it's a substantial downgrade now for a shot that Jost develops into a useful fantasy asset years down the road. Not a trade I would have made.
