With Schultz/Maatta/Daley out, this deal is simply a necessity to roster 6 able bodied defensemen. Wouldn't be surprised to see another serviceable defender get acquired by PIT.

Hahaha Pouliot would not get a sniff. It would be a waste. Let him continue to gain confidence in the AHL. Give him the NHL when he is ready, that is, when he is a comfortable AHLer who finds the game easy down there. Surprised but not surprised that they didn't give the reigns to Warsofsky, who seems to be anchoring WBS on the back-end. That said, he's had multiple NHL shots and hasn't stuck... and if they brought him up, WBS would be in trouble giving Pouliot their reigns too soon as well.

I thought I deleted before posting - as I didn't recall him being recalled while writing it.

Is Hainsey a better player than Michael Stone? Like I said in the Stone thread, a 2nd round pick is pretty common for rental D-men. Kristo is probably there just to even out the contract numbers.

Plus I'd say there's a chance he returns to the Hurricanes this summer.

You beat me to it. I still think both Flames and Coyotes got fair value for their respective assets. It's just that the Flames were able to get away with not over-paying, unlike the Pens.

A 2nd seems steep but perhaps the Canes eating half the remaining $$$ was a big part of that.

2nd in what's being called a really weak draft isn't as steep as it first seems.

Nice pick up for Pittsburgh. Hainsey is more than just depth to get through the injuries, he'll contribute in a meaningful way to their playoff run. Under the radar top 4 defender, or a rock on the third pair.
