I love Matheson's SOG and Block rates early on in his career. He needs to start scoring more though. And he needs some PP time. Not sure when/if he'll start getting it.
Who do you like long term? League in sig but general opinions welcome.

Matheson for me but I've been a long time admirer

I prefer Matheson. We have waited too long for Dumba to break out.
How good can Matheson be? 35 to 45 point Dman? On that team Ekblad has a huge number SOG but very few goals. He would have to be number two behind Ekblad ? Matheson looks good though. I see more solid Dman than star though.

Just wanted to throw this out there too
Matheson or Montour? It's possible both are going to be pickups in leagues. Especially dynasty if they weren't owned already.
Montour have the higher ceiling?

^^ Montour has a higher ceiling, but Matheson will hit his faster imo

I also think it depends on scoring categories as I think they will dictate who is the better 'own' IMO.

Interesting tidbit about Matheson:
Over the past month he has paced for 227 SOG and 191 Blocks over the course of an 82 game season. This is a small sample size of course, but were he to keep up such rates over the course of a full season it would be pretty darn special.
How special? In 2015 Roman Josi was the only defender to record 200+ SOG and 190+ blocks (201 and 209), and in 2016 Mark Giordano was the only one to do it (212 and 193), although Josi was close with 198 SOG and 185 blocks. The only other player to even come close to these numbers over that period was Karlsson in 2016 with 248 SOG and 175 Blocks. Everybody else who achieved one of those two marks was woefully short in the other. Not one single player is on pace for 200+ SOG and 190+ blocks this season.
I am not saying that this is necessarily a significant trend that will continue... but it is very interesting to me nonetheless because it COULD continue. This would make Matheson a very nice player in leagues that count both of these categories, especially if he can start scoring more which seems likely to happen if he keeps shooting so much. Over the past 2 years only one D man had 200+ SOGs and scored less than 40 points. That was Krug in 2015, with 39 points. This year only one d man is on pace for 200+ SOGs with less than 40 points, that is Ekblad.
As I already addressed, the past month is admittedly a small sample size. During that period there are several others pacing to meet those marks. They are Karlsson (252 and 214), Ristolainen (222 and 205) and Provorov (239 and 198). Matheson is probably the least likely of those three to sustain such numbers over a long period of time.
