Doesn't seem too serious after all for the young lad

@DarrenDreger: Marner's injury confirmed as non-serious. May not play vs the Sens, but isn't believed to be a longer term concern.

Mitch Marner will not play tonight vs. Senators, per Babcock. Also won't play tomorrow. Will reassess next week.

Leivo will take his spot on the top PP, I think. He was practising there on Friday.

I didn't take Babcock's comment seriously anyway. Wasn't expecting to see Marner for at least a few days.

    UPDATE:

Mitch Marner (upper body) has been placed on injured reserve.

He won't play on Tuesday night against Winnipeg, but still could be back on Thursday against the Rangers. Marner's move to injured reserve allowed the team to recall Frederik Gauthier from the minors.

So now that Marner has been placed on IR four days later, would you like to highlight your point once more? Coaches will always put their star players in the lineup if they're healthy. Saying that has no meaning.

counting down the minutes before I see another comment "see, this type of injury can follow a small frail young kid around for the rest of his career, unless said player plays in the Nation's capital because they only draft big strong injury resistant players like Mark Stone..." ooops.

    disregard.

no, no need for that, that would be pretty dumb, now that hes on IR

and my statement wasn't for meaning persay at the time..more to keep the thread on track as it was getting too far off base to be practical. if you look back at that it was just a copy of what somebody else had said to do the same thing...not an earth shattering statement by any means.

Not playing against the Habs tonight. Interesting take by Babcock on the role of the medical staff. He seems to grudgingly accept that the med staff is in charge.

Babcock recently suggested, with some frustration, that Marner is being held out at the insistence of the team’s medical staff, which includes a sports science division.

“That’s why they have these doctors and these trainers is because the coach and the player (think he could) be playing today,” he said earlier this week. “But they don’t let us get involved in the equation and we save ourselves from ourselves.”
