Suspect this is just a move in case Las Vegas is stupid enough to take either Niemi or Lehtonen in the expansion draft.

It also helps them if they somehow deal Niemi or Lehtonen by the deadline, and don't get another goaltender that can be exposed back in that deal. Peters is on the lists I've seen for Arizona as eligble, so they could expose him, and keep whichever one they don't deal.
