Default Trade down in 2017 rookie draft

If you had the number one overall pick. Would it be a good idea to trade down to pick casey mittelstadt instead?

Too tough to call at this point. Who knows where your pick ends up, and who knows where Mittlestadt ends up. Maybe he plays his way into the 6-8 range, and you miss out on him. I would sit on my pick for now.
You're more likely to get someone to overpay closer to the draft anyways.

Agreed, it's a bad idea to trade 1st rounds now, unless you're looking to add a piece for a championship run down the stretch.

Trade pick values in my dynasty league jacked up in the final two weeks before my draft. Definitely hold. Especially where Patrick has only played a handful of games. Let people see him play and Craig Button pump his tires to build the draft hype.

When draft day comes. Think about making the trade? Is there that much separation between (Patrick, Hischier) to ( Mittlestadt)?

The answer will be yes. but what you are offered now will be 1/2 of what you are offered on draft day

OK I haven't been offered anything now. I have a good chance of picking 1 or 2. I was just thinking that if I did get 1 or 2 it might be worth it to trade it and get some other pieces. I don't think Mittlestadt is that far off. Thanks everyone

I would want a top-2 pick this year. Patrick and Hischier seem to be a step above everyone else right now.

Mittlestadt is an older prospect for the 2017 draft and he's still playing in the USHL which isn't all that impressive. He definitely could become a good player but I wouldn't take that risk if I had the option of drafting Patrick or Hischier instead. Besides, you probably cannot trade down lower than 3rd overall to make sure you get Mittelstadt, so it's unlikely anyone is going to pay all that much to trade up 1 or 2 spots.

I agree. Hold 1 or 2 unless you get an overpayment. There's quite a tier there.

Mittlestadt is not the prospect Hischier or Patrick are and it's not close.

I wouldn't trade out of the top 2. But there is a case to trade down anywhere from 10th to, say, 20th...
