    Default Order These Goalie Prospects

Not worrying about arrival time, but focusing on talent level, competition for job, and success of team they are on, order these players: FEEL FREE TO INCLUDE ANYONE NOTABLE I FORGOT NOT YET IN NHL

    Ilya Samsonov - WSH
    Ilya Sorokin - NYI
    Eric Comrie - WPG
    Ville Husso - STL

Ilya Samsonov, Ilya Sorokin, Igor Shestyorkin and Thatcher Demko are the best goalie prospects in the world in my opinion. Difficult to really rank them but the Canucks look to be a terrible team for a long time which hurts Demko, and Holtby isn't going anywhere which hurts Samsonov. But those two are probably slightly better goalie prospects than the other two in a vacuum, so you could really have them in any order and I wouldn't have any complaints.

From the other names you listed, I like Eric Comrie the most. I would also add Tristan Jarry in the same group with him. Maybe add Jon Gillies, Zach Fucale and Tyler Parsons in the same group as well.

Halverson and Husso are decent prospects but a tier below in my opinion.

Igor Shesterkin is a real interesting prospect for the Rangers. He is having a great season with St. Petersburg. I think he'll be the next guy to own in New York after Hank calls it a career.

If Shesterkin comes over at the start of 2018... I expect him to vastly outperform Hellberg immediately.

It's looking like Hellberg will be a backup at best. Turns 26 soon and hasn't been all that great in the AHL. Shestyorkin is much more likely to be the next in line after Lundqvist.

Shestyorkin's KHL contract runs until 18/19 so I don't think I would expect him to make the leap until then.

I know these are long term prospects but would you drop anyone on my roster for Shesterkin? Goalies are very hard to acquire in this league.

I think people continue to overvalue Russian goalies who are playing in the KHL. People have to realize that there are very few goals scored in the KHL compared to the NHL and the AHL. Here are the goals scored per game in each of the leagues so far this season:

    AHL - 5.79
    NHL - 5.43
    KHL - 4.91

That's a big difference when comparing goalies from various leagues.

Of the goalies you listed, I like Ville Husso and Thatcher Demko the most.

That might explain part of their low GAA but how do you explain their high SV%? Let's take Sorokin for example; .930 this season, .953 last season, .945 last season in the playoffs.

Also, half a goal per game (difference between the NHL and KHL) means on average .25 against. So maybe pump their 1.50ish GAA to 1.75. That's still damn impressive.

Besides, Samsonov was clearly the best goalie at the WJC. Sorokin and Shestyorkin have been better than him at the KHL as they should have been since they're a couple of years older. If Russian goalies are so bad, how do you explain Samsonov being so damn impressive at the WJC?

I think you're just overvaluing everyone else. Especially Husso who was never all that good to begin with. Trust me, I've followed his career since way before he was even drafted.

Maybe, they just have better depth of top goalies than in the NHL

I'm in full agreement with Jouko. Guy really knows his European players too. The young goalies over there are looking very promising.
