First thought... just off the top of my head: Pick a different team to be a fan of. lol
Wow with LA losing last night there is a real chance here Nucks fans. I don't know how I feel about this. Three thoughts come to mind.
1.) This isn't good worse case scenario we miss the playoffs just on the outside and get a pick outside the top 10. Best case scenario we make the playoffs and get bounced in the first round.
2.) This is counterproductive for our "rebuild" we need another top 5 draft pick. Even though we seem to mess these picks up.
3.) Screw it I love seeing playoff hockey when my teams in it, nothing better. Let's go Canucks!
Your thoughts?

Both 1 & 2. Playoff hockey is only fun if you don't get destroyed in the 1st round. If they play Minn in the 1st round you're looking at a 4 game complete embarrassment. I don't think Van has another gear down the stretch to match the intensity of playoff teams.
Baertche, Horvat, Tryamkin all need to go up another gear to have any chance in hell of squeaking in. Ericksson needs to round into last years form and become the line driver. Miller needs to remain at the level he's at now, & Tanev needs to stay on the ice for a full game. Tryamkin is looking like a legit dominating Dman, that last game he hit everything that moved.
I think the biggest fear for Canuck fans is if management trades prospects/picks for a playoff run. That would be devastating. They can't win on the road, like at all... period. If they make the playoffs whether it's Minn, Chi, Anh, Edm, whoever. It'll be a 4 game sweep or 5 if Miller can steal one.
For Canuck fans sake, hope for a Toronto 2013/14 sized free-fall down the stretch and get a top 5 pick.

Enjoy the playoff run if it happens. Don't take it for granted. Even an 8th seed can win it all.
My takeaway: The Pacific Division is the worst in the NHL. I feel like the 3rd seed should have to get relegate with a team from the Metro haha

I hear ya. Playoff hockey is fun, for sure. There's nothing you can do to change what's happening, so enjoy the ride.
It very well may delay and/or setback the rebuild, but I mean, there's no way they'll think they can tweak the roster to try and keep that window open right?....... right???

They made the mistake of trying to get into the playoffs last year and failed and dropped down the draft list in the process. I think this year will be largely the same.
a 5-13-3 Road record and a -18goal Diff tell me they'll start dropping down the standings.

As a fan I want playoff hockey...every single time....
Leafs 2.0
either they miss the playoffs and get a shitty draft pick or make the playoffs and get wrecked.
team will be a mess until they decide to rebuild. took the leafs management forever to accept that and when they finally did the turn around was relatively quick . the leafs are already better now in the early stages of the rebuild vs when they were desperately trying to make the playoffs during the phaneuf era.

Heading into the season, I wanted losses -- a lot of losses.
This draft doesn't have any home runs, but a top pick (or the ability to trade a top pick) would've been big.
It's too late for a top pick, so I'm rooting for the playoffs.
But I'll be pissed if they make moves that sacrifice the future. No moving picks, prospects for rentals.
I'd still probably prefer they move pieces (which they didn't last year -- Vrbata, Hamhuis, ugh), but I don't see it happening anymore.
Just don't add for a short run.

I was the same way Stone, it was weird I almost was disappointed after a win. I wanted 4-3 losses where Horvat and the young guns got some points. However like you said its all or nothing. Either were a bottom 5 team with a good chance at Patrick or in the playoffs for at least one round of fun hockey.
On a side note I think winning is good for our youth. Getting beaten for years on years like the Oilers had can really hurt a players emotional state.

The reality is that the team doesnt' have the horses anymore and will likely lose 5 of 6..or 7 of 9..and those playoff hopes will be over.
That happens, the Canucks likely end up with a top-5,8 pick in a weak draft. Rinse and repeat next season.
But there are signs the younger players are starting to progress and learn. So that's decent.
As for the "do what Toronto did"--- can anyone tell me which team is going to take the Sedins and that $14m cap hit off the Canucks hands?
It's easy to say, a lot harder to do.

us vancouverites all know even if we get into the draft lottery, we'll never win it. even if we were dead last in the standings, we'd slip down to 3rd overall. That's just the way the universe works. Like last year, were 3rd last in the league going into a deep draft and should have gotten a puljuarrvi. But of course, we drop down to 5th.
so to hell with it, let's just keep being mediocre, try to squeeze into the playoffs so we can get swept in the first round.

Vancouver media never talks about losing the draft lottery.. all they talk about is taking Juolevi instead of Tkachuk. and how big of a colossal F--- up that was. All because one made the jump to the NHL immediately.
