Default (Will Rep!) Talbot on the Block, Help Me Save My Season!

Hi all, this is for the team in my signature and I really appreciate any advice (I know it's a long post, so I will REP for help). I'm really struggling to figure out my team. I've got the most fantasy points for in the league, but based on bad Head to Head scheduling luck, my team is about to go 7-8 and I'm sitting in 8th out of 12 with five weeks left. Top 6 teams make the playoffs and the 1st place team is only going to be 10-5 at the end of the week. So even though there are a lot of teams to jump over, there isn't a ton of ground I need to make up.

I'm going back and forth between being a buyer or seller. I'm 1st or 2nd in all scoring categories, except for goaltending (8th fewest wins, league worst goals against) and +/- (cumulative -42, 2nd worst in the league), which have killed me this year. On the buy side, I've been looking for a goalie upgrade as the most likely place to salvage the season. The last place team has Talbot and is willing to sell him off, as well as other veterans. I feel like this might be my last chance to shake things up and get into the playoffs.

    Two questions:
    1. Is Talbot an upgrade over that helps me this year?
    2. What do you think is a good deal that keeps me in contention and also is a good move for the other GM? I've copied his roster below and was thinking that Talbot, Carter & Radulov are good veteran targets. On my side, I was thinking that Werenski and a combination of Hellebuyck, Schenn or Schwartz are my best candidates to move (gives him youth and I can replace Werenski with Vlassic or Muzzin until Josi is back).

Here's his roster, sorted by Fantasy Points per Game:
    Forwards:
    4.24 - Carter, Jeff C
    4.14 - Oshie, T.J. RW
3.78 - van Riemsdyk, James LW
    3.22 - Radulov, Alexander LW,RW
    3.18 - MacKinnon, Nathan C,RW
    3.02 - Zetterberg, Henrik C,LW
    2.81 - Nelson, Brock C,LW
    2.79 - Steen, Alexander LW,RW
    2.60 - Sedin, Daniel LW

    Defense
    4.71 - Letang, Kris
    4.12 - Byfuglien, Dustin
    3.72 - Phaneuf, Dion
    3.54 - Sekera, Andrej
    3.26 - Beaulieu, Nathan
    2.91 - Johnson, Jack
    2.21 - Lindholm, Hampus

    Goalie
    5.88 - Talbot, Cam
    5.41 - Smith, Mike
    5.32 - Howard, Jimmy
    3.76 - Mason, Steve
    2.49 - Neuvirth, Michal

And incase it helps, here's my Fantasy Points per Game for my Roster:

    Forward
    4.67 - Kucherov, Nikita RW
    4.5 - Ovechkin, Alex LW
    4.03 - Seguin, Tyler C,RW

    3.36 - Schenn, Brayden C,LW
    3.13 - Duchene, Matt C,RW
    3.06 - Neal, James RW
    2.91 - Bozak, Tyler C
    2.83 - Schwartz, Jaden C,LW
    2.75 - Kopitar, Anze C
    2.63 - Johnson, Tyler C

    Defense
    5.48 - Karlsson, Erik
    4.68 - Hedman, Victor
    4.07 - Werenski, Zach
    3.87 - Josi, Roman
    3.71 - Martinez, Alec
    3.14 - Vlasic, Marc

I definitely think Talbot is the perfect upgrade for you, and since you weren't planning to keep Werenski then it makes sense. Maybe after the season look at Schenn or Talbot as your 9th keeper instead of Vas? I would try to send Hell-boy back the other way too, if I could. I think those two names are young enough with enough buzz around them that the other GM might bite. Good luck!

SvBetts has it right. Talbot is a good call for you, and it sounds like it's definitely worth it to make a full on playoff push now before it's too late.

Talbot helps you and Hellybuck isn't helping you. The players you want to move are right ( Dobber has them all as underperforming the last 30 games

Thanks guys! I've rep'ed where I could. I sent an offer out on Werenski and Hellebuyck for Talbot so we'll see where that goes.

    Hi all,

A quick update on this, the other GM is interested, but with Pavelec being recalled, he's concerned about Hellebuyck losing the starters gig and wants to protect his investment. He wanted to see if I would do:

Werenski, Hellebuyck and a early round 2017 draft pick FOR Talbot and a later round 2017 draft pick (he didn't specify on the picks).

I told him I'm generally not a pick fan of swapping picks, but countered with Werenski, Hellebuyck & Pavelec FOR Talbot and either Carter or Oshie (since they're both older and there's rumblings that Oshie may not be resigned to the Caps). I think I'd be more inclined to some sort of draft pick swap in my counter offer, but what do you think...am I headed down a good path here?

Nevermind, you can ignore my last post (sorry, with the forum issues I couldn't delete it). He doesn't want to move Oshie or Carter.

I countered with Werenski, Hellebuyck and a 5th Round pick FOR Talbot, Phaneuf and a 9th Round pick.
