Well... they had to do it.
Pressure is a tough thing for goalies.
Helle as the newly annointed #1 & future of the team.
The season has been eating him alive:

Monthly for Hellebuyck:
Oct: .919 sv%
Nov: .914 sv%
Dec: .898 sv%
Jan: .897 sv%

Pavelec has been a .900-.905sv% ish goalie last 4-5 years.
So... he's a tad better than what WPG is getting from Helle/Hutch.

Well Pavs has a decent record in the A on a weak Moose squad (8-7, 2.78, 0.917), but I doubt he's able to pull of a Budaj-type return. I Think this is more to let the current tandem know that there are other options out there and that they better get their $#!% together ASAP.

Not to hijack my own thread but for my team, since we can only roster 4 goalies, should I drop Hutch and grab Pavs or stand still until more info is known?

This was just a matter of time. Both Hellebuyck and Hutchinson have been hit and miss most of the season. No consistency from either guy. Hellebuyck may be the future, but the Jets are in the playoff run today.

Agree with the consensus that a) this was just a matter of time and b) had to be done. I actually give Chevy kudos for just doing it instead of deliberating and drawing it out.
They've already stated their "intention" by demoting Pavs earlier in the season. No controversy here even if he does get hot. This is a "save our season" kind of long shot and considering they've had that asset just sitting in the minors - it's a great call to try this route first.

Based on your league set up, I'd have zero problem gambling on Pavs and dropping Hutch. At most (12teamx4max) you only have 48 goalies rostered. So 12 backups still available. As a Hutch owner, I'd have to assume at least 1 (if not all 12) would be suitable replacements if Pavs flames out and Hutch is gone.

McKenzie had a string of tweets where he compares the Pavelec recall to the Wild getting Dubnyk to "stop the bleeding". That doesn't sound so good for owners of the other two guys (at least short term).

So are they keeping all 3 up or sending Hellebuyck down (waiver exempt so I've heard), or what? Gotta think sending Hellebuyck down is the best thing for him if Pavs will be getting the starts. Or will they wait to see if Pavs just provides the same inconsistency at the higher price...

If your only add limit is a weekly cap of 4 or 5, then I would make the move.
