    Default keeper / FA thoughts

Cats - G A +/- SOG PPA PPG PIM HIT BLK

We can keep 6 F + 4 D + 1 UTIL. My players are listed in my sig.

My keeper preferences for now are:

    Forwards:

    • Pavelski (6 for 2)
    • Schenn (5.1 for 3)
    • Johansen (RFA)
    • JVR (4.2 for 1)
    • Barkov (5.9 for 5)
    • Ritchie (1.6 for 1, only because his massive amount of hits are valuable with some points upside)

    Defense:
    • Weber ($$$ at 7.8, but with my cats he is ranked #2 overall right now this season)
    • Klingberg (4.2 for 5)
    • Gostisbehere (RFA)
    • DeAngelo (1.3 for 2)

    Util:
    • Rickard Rakell (3.8 for 5)

    Non-keepers:
    • Pearson (RFA)
    • Teravainen (RFA)
    • Hanifin (1.7 for 1)
    • Hanzal (UFA)
    • Nurse (1.7 for 1)

    FAs I'm looking at:
    F:

    • Elias Lindholm
    • Zucker
    • Hartman
    • Guentzel
    • Brassard
    • Tatar
    • Fiala
    • Cagguila
    • Dvorak
    • Zacha

    D:
    • Gardiner
    • Savard
    • Stone
    • Matheson
    • Petrovic
    • Ceci
    • Zadorov
    • Morrissey

I'm in a try to win for the next 1-2 years mode right now so don't have a lot of rookies or young guys who won't perform soon (DeAngelo being the sole exception for now). I usually trend towards guys who perform well across multiple categories rather than trying to fill my team with points only guys and peripheral only guys.

Any thoughts on my choices so far? Any FAs that are obvious to pick up and keep who will really perform the next couple years?

I like the guys you have picked out. Ritchie is the obvious one to swap someone in for, but as you say, those hits are very valuable. So unless something much better comes along, stick with what you have.

I would rank Rakell above Ritchie since I think Ritchie is the weakest link. I might also consider Hanifin over DeAngelo. Or perhaps Hanifin over Ritchie.

The free agents aren't really better than what you have.

Rakell is in the UTIL slot, so he's getting kept too. Bit of a moot point putting one over the other.

Hanifin is an intriguing name, but I think in this case taking the risk with the higher upside is worth it.

Johansen going to be worth it over other guys if he signs for 7? I'm disappointed with his production this year. He just seems like a lazy player who can disappoint every year.

Unless Johansen suddenly explodes to finish the season, I don't think he gets $7M. More likely he gets the same $6M contract that Forsberg got.

If he can get 60 points consistently, then $6M is not too bad. It's not a steal by any means but not bad either.

If cap space is really valuable in your league, then maybe you should consider Pearson over Johansen? That would totally depend on your league, I don't know if anyone can really help you with that decision.
