    Default Encarnacion signs with Cleveland

Sad day for Jays fans as Edwing moves on to Cleveland.

Lots of talk of who is to blame for the Jays not re-signing Encarnacion. Some say the agent overplayed their hand while others are saying the Jays didn't give Edwin enough time. The fact he gave up 20M in guaranteed money by "waiting" is something Encarnacions camp will have to deal with.

Personally, if Edwin wanted to come back to Toronto all along as he says (and I don't doubt he had Toronto in mind), he had to know the Jays were looking at contingency plans as well and weren't going to wait too long. Was two days after offering Edwin enough time before jumping on Morales? I guess we will never know.

What I do know is Cleveland just got a lot better. I wish Edwin had gone to the NL. On the bright side, he didn't sign with the Yankees or the Red Sox.

Very sad and unfortunate that he signed for less than they offered. I hope he fires his agent.

Cleveland is now the favorite in the AL. Sorry Boston

You summed it up pretty well. It is sad to see him go, especially to a contender, but I wish him the best, and I'm just glad it wasn't within the division.

It's funny because it sounds to me like the Jays operate the same way that I operate when I run fantasy. I hate the whole song and dance around negotiation - when I send an offer to someone, that's the offer. If you dilly dally i'm pulling it.

I hope this is a wake up call to other guys on the team that might be looking at extensions down the road.

I still have Boston as my AL favorite. Edwin strikes out a fair amount... and Boston is going to strike out a lot of hitters. That said seeing them in the AL Finals facing each other also seems predictable
