Word is he turned it down. That says to me he's looking for more years; probably the same or similar dollars per year though.

I think he's looking for similar money to Hanley Ramirez, who got 4yrs, $88M.

Could be, for sure. My only reasoning for thinking he'd want more years is that this might be his last chance for a long-term deal.

For a 34 year old, four years IS a long term deal.

I've come to terms with the Jays not being able to bring back EE on a reasonable deal. In fact, I'd rather he walk so the Jays can get another 1st rounder. This way, they could maybe make good on the rumor of a trade for Eaton?

Trade for Eaton and sign Fowler. Eaton only makes like 2.75mill. Also sounds like it’ll take Guerrero Jr to make this trade happen. Guerrero Jr won’t be a big league player until ~2019/2020 too. If not him, then Reese McGuire the catcher. He’s ranked No4 catching prospect and was drafted 14th overall by the pirates in 2013. We got him with the Hutch/Liriano trade. He’s not an offensive guy, but his defense is amazing (apparently, I don’t know for sure). The thing people look for (apparently again) is the defense and hope for the bat to develop, so he’s a pretty solid trading chip to own.

Honestly if they can get Fowler and Eaton, that would be a great outfield all of a sudden. Your lineup could be some combo of Fowler, Eaton, Donaldson, Morales, Tulo, Martin with Zeke, Travis, Goins, and Upton somewhere at the back half. If not Zeke, Pillar. Your Extremely subpar outfield turns into Pillar/Zeke-Fowler-Eaton/Upton. With Pillar, Upton, and Fowler all being able to play CF to help with rest.

I'd be surprised if the Jays start dealing away prospects to fill holes at this point. I think Shapiro is gung-ho to replenish the system over moving assets out. He will just sign FA's to fill the holes, and probably ones who aren't as good as we'd like.

I thought it was believed he was open to moving prospects that weren’t ones he brought in, but that would also remove the two I said above.

Read earlier today (can't remember where), that EE is likely to sign either later this week or early next week. Apparently the Jays have shown the most interest, and have been the most welcoming to him (not really a surprise).
I'm really hoping we can bring him back on an Ortiz like deal.

I agree just get it done. The team can contend now. Frankly I don't care what it looks like in 5 years if they win now.

Once source on twitter has EE signing with the Astros tomorrow. Here's the article that it pops up in:

Not sure how reliable that is, but it's interesting to note.
