Still?
Ever you mean?
No. He was always a terrible draft pick. But hey, at least Cam Fowler didn't work out either...............
The Rangers put McIlrath on waivers on Thursday, a few days after reports that the Rangers tried to trade him. Presumably, the Rangers hope McIlrath does not get claimed, so they can send him down to the AHL. McIlrath was the 10th overall draft pick in 2010, but he has not yet become a regular for coach head coach Alain Vigneault. McIlrath has played in only one game this season, and played just 9:14 in that one. Last season, he played in 34 games for the Rangers, registering two goals and two assists.
Does he get claimed by another team? Do you think hge still can play in NHL?

Looks more like a career injury call-up at this point...

I've seen a lot of Rangers fans frustrated with McIlrath's treatment from AV and believe he should have been playing. I'd say it's 50/50 if he gets claimed. I think he'd make a pretty good physical bottom pair guy.

If I remember correctly, no one, including Bob McKenzie, could believe he was drafted 10th overall. He went way ahead of where he was ranked. I guess everyone else was right?
right shooting D? i think he'll get claimed.
leafs or oilers my guess

AV's style is sometimes vexing. He so clearly plays favorites and once in his doghouse its almost impossible to get out. For example Jesper Fast who has zero offense sees the ice on a regular basis, while McIlrath watches from the pressbox.
Right now coach is in love with Holden whom he has playing with the captain, despite the turnovers he dresses every game. McIlrath went after the goon Gudas who hit Vesey from behind and hasn't seen the ice since then.
Its too bad really, because McIlrath can't see any ice time which results in other teams not being able to assess what kind of game he has. AV dresses Clendening and Holden over DM, yet Clendening is a professional at icing the puck and Holden is clearly over his head on the top pairing. Yet the forwards and Lundqvist cover up the miscues on a nightly basis. Best thing for him would be for a team to claim him and give him a shot. He has really improved his foot speed, clears the crease with gusto and can help an NHL team not coached by AV.
With Jooris going onto IR, NYR had space for DM on the roster.
Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.
To be fair, not a lot of the D that yr turned out great. Especially the top 10 D.

"Hey remember when the Rangers drafted the Huge Specimen in 2003" is what i remember saying when the Rangers drafted McIlrath.
But in all fairness, he hasn't been able to get a consistent shot ... but then at the same time he hasn't really deserved it
