what difference does the contracts make?
Hey Dobber Nation,
My goalie situation in my keeper league got pretty messed up with Quick going down. Another manager has tossed out this offer.
Here it is:
My Quick
for
His Hellebuyck
The categories are wins, SV%, and GAA and we start two goalies weekly. Each player on our roster can be protected for a maximum of 4 years before going back into the draft. My current goalies are Quick, Talbot, Niemi, Mason.
Important details: Quick is in his last year of his contract, while Hellebuyck is in his first of potentially 4.
Any thoughts would be appreciated,
Cheers!

Experience is the teacher of all things.
Quick goes back into the draft next season while I could keep Hellebuyck for 4 years

who else would you have in goal...
Experience is the teacher of all things.
We start 2 goalies weekly, currently have Quick, Mason, Talbot, Niemi.
Initially was planning to always start Quick and roll with the hot hand between the other 3.

By the time Quick returns, I think that Hellebuyck will have taken over the net in Winnipeg. Quick consistently posts good, but not great, peripheral stats, so from that standpoint, the trade is a wash. However, it's the four years versus back into the draft part that, for me, tips the scales towards pulling the trigger on this trade.
You just need to be comfortable assuming all of the risk in this trade.
Anyone else???
This year only, I'm keeping quick. But long term Helly may be the way to go. Can you Getty a kicker to sweeten the deal?

Are you going for the win this season? If so, I'd hold onto Quick b/c the rest of your tenders are iffy. If you're building for the future and do not care about this season, then do the deal for sure as Hellboy shouls be very good and the 4 years you get are excellent value.

I updated my signature to reflect my entire team. I think my team could be competitive, not sure if its a winner club.

I would take the deal without question.
You have Quick for the rest of this season, which is going to be somewhere between 0-35 starts. I get 35 as a max from a 3-month timetable, and Quick playing most of the way after that. Realistically, the upside is closer to 25 games.
I think Hellebuyck is goign to get more starts than that for you this year, and the keeper ramifications are all in Hellebuyck's favor.

I would take the deal. We have no guarantee that Quick will be back in the three months, especially with electing to go the non-surgical route.
Then you get a bonus 4 years.
If you need to later, you can probably trade Quick to a rebuilding team in return for another goalie at the deadline.

Quick for this year only or Hellebuyck for this year and 4 additional years? If Quick was healthy I don't think I would be entertaining this offer. With Quick out for MONTHS with a bad GROIN I make this deal in heartbeat. So long Mr.Quick.
- I said... "God damn this tablet is heavy!"
I'd do it.
Quick tends to be over rated in fantasy imo, he's a very good goalie but his peripherals have always been below that top tier. I think Hellebuyck could be the better own by next season. Factor in Quicks injury and how fickle groin injuries can be, I take Hellebuyck.
