    Default Another Fantrax League Thread!

I feel like I just got handed an even tougher spot than Praba lol!

    I am picking 3rd overall.

H2H Points, 12 Teams, Weekly Lineups

    5F/3D/2G

    SKATERS:
    G - 4, A - 3, PIM - 0.5, SHG - 2, SOG - 0.5, PPP - 1

    GOALIES:
    A - 3, GA - (-1), PIM - 0.5, SV - 025, SO - 5, W - 5

I know my general strategy and we've been talking about it lots in the other threads as well.

    My rankings are:
    1. Ovechkin
    2. Crosby
    3. Holtby

If I grab Holtby at #3 my next pick is not until #22.
These goalies were gone by pick #22 last year:
Price, Rask, Holtby, Lundqvist, Rinne, Fleury, Bishop, Crawford, Quick, Dubnyk, Varlamov, Schneider.
Sub in Jones, Gibson, Talbot maybe and I don't think goalies last long.

    Thoughts?

Well... here's some big advice: Goalie-Goalie.
    Q: WHY?
    A: Turn logic.

If Team #1 goes OV... Team #2 goes Crosby.
That's a skater for team #1... skater for team #2.
That means... on the way back, they are looking for a Goalie, yes?
So do NOT let goalies slide, its likely that at LEAST two and possibly FOUR goalies will be taken by those GMs in the four picks between your 2nd/3rd round picks.
If you take a goalie, it further puts premium on that position... both teams may go G-G... which could mean that BPA skater for your 2nd round will STILL be there for your 3rd round! Nice, huh?
[praba got a bit lucky, IMO, in that TeamOV went D/F with his picks - where TeamOV SHOULD have gone Goalie-Goalie and could have taken Rask/Schneider off the board... instead he went Malkin/OEL, big mistake, IMO.]

All draft long, keep an eye on Teams #1 or Team #2.
If they need D coming back towards you guys... you take your D first...

    Study praba's draft.
You'll see a huge run on goalies in start of 3rd round: Schneider, Rask, Dubnyk, Gibson, Bob.
Those guys will go AT THE TURN, inside your pick, if you don't take them.

Personally, I think Rask will be back to being a workhorse this year.
I like him a tad over Schneider with Wins scoring at what it is.

    Holtby/Rask/BPA-Skater.... skater, skater, skater, skater

    If you have time...
    IF you have time...
Make yourself a weekly team grid so you can get OUT OF THE GATES fast at forward.
Find out which teams play a LOT in your first 2-3 weeks.
We did this last year... it was like NYR or LA or something...
That way you don't have to go to the waiver wire.

    Your last 3-4 rounds should basically be prep-work for H2H matches #1, #2, #3.

Thanks P7, will be keeping an eye on those guys.
Let's say I go G/G and BPA is F/F for the next two rounds do I leave a better forward on the board and start grabbing D?
I made a spreadsheet and there are a couple teams that have some sick stretches of 3 and mostly 4 game weeks.

    Based on Praba's draft:
    52 D drafted: 53rd D based on last years stats: 187.5 Points
    105 F drafted: 106th F based on last years stats: 260 points
    35 G drafted: 36th G based on last years stats: 225 points

So if I have learned anything from these forums, if I am deciding between F and D I need to look at their stats vs above stats, correct?
IE: Pick 52 in Praba's draft.
Praba selects Doughty (317 points / +180 above FA D)
Team D selects Pacioretty at 49 (3 picks before praba). (409 points / +149 above FA Forward)

Conclusion: Team D should have taken Doughty at 49, luckily, Praba got him at 52.

Oh gosh, is this right lol?

    You got that exactly right.
    D are at a premium... especially in 5F/3D format... that's 37.5% of starting skaters 3/8 at D.
That's a rare chunk in leagues.

Yes... I'm big on G/D/F as order in this draft.
Always BPA, but pretty much G... G/D... D/F ...D/F... something like that, if you can. D always before F.
The turn teams (GM01, GM02) will be looking for D having secured a good feeling by nabbing OV, Crosby (likely) to start off draft.
That should leave a good F on the board to slide around the turn to you in ODD rounds.

Thank goodness this is the only important league I am a part of this year, couldn't handle much more prep!

I have 3 spreadsheets, based on projected fantasy points.
The second last column is projected points and the final column is the +/- off the likely available FA.
The good thing about going G/G is I can throw that sheet away and just focus on F/D and crossing them off my list as they come!

This is maybe unlikely but if Holtby is not available at 3, I need to take Crosby/G/G and re-asses.
