Not to take away from sadness. I wonder why this happened. Found vessel 3-330am.

Very sad indeed. Based on the picture of the upturned boat, one would have to think that darkness played a major role. They must have hit the rocks at a very high speed

    Happened at night I'd think

Fernandez was on a 32-foot vessel that had a "severe impact" with a jetty, said FWC's Lorenzo Veloz.

Very sad indeed. I haven't followed much baseball for the past few years but I always remember hearing about Fernandez and how good he was doing. 253 strike outs as a 24 year old. So talented and so young

Thanks for that. I didn't know what a 'jetty' was. He sure was a talent. He tried to leave Cuba 3 previous times before finally escaping.

Awful news. Thoughts go out to his family and to the Marlins.
Really difficult for me to even wrap my head around it.

Incredibly sad. Got the notification when I woke up. Was one of the pitchers I always thought I'd have time to see him live. Pretty amazing talent. Tough to digest for sure. Thinking of his family and team in this time

He was like a pitcher out of a video game. He had such an infectious smile and attitude. Cuba born, defected, grew up in Tampa, and lived in Miami playing MLB. Sounds like a plot out of a movie.

It’s going to be tough to even finish the season for the Marlins.

I definitely see a movie in the future about his trials and tribulations getting to the majors.

Couldn’t speak English in highschool, skipped class to just call his grandma to settle himself down, shot at and jailed, Tommy John, became a US citizen during his rehab yr from TJ. Hilarious guy. Would be a great movie actually.

A funny story I read was he didn’t believe his dad that it was unlimited food at a buffet when he first went to one in the states. Or how he used to call a hockey puck a ball.
