(No I don't have a hockey problem...)
considering he was 5.8mill on his last contract i think its pretty good.

Steen is hugely important to a team which can genuinely roll three lines inasmuch as he could play various positions on all three. Sure - maybe by year four he'll be in serious decline, but even if he does his usual band-aid boy act this should be a fine deal for them for at least the first couple of years.

Already 32yrs old, gets injured every year, already injured to start this season. Could see this deal looking bad in a year or 2....but no denying steen's importance to the Blues.

With Backes gone, he assumes a major leadership role on this team, if he wasn't already counted on for that before.
Fair contract considering his age and what he brings to the team, when he's on the ice.

"Cleavage is like the sun. You can look, but dont stare.. Unless you're wearing sunglasses."
This is probably the most undervalued quality player in the league. He has no trade value in most leagues, probably because he misses 10 games and is not the "new thing", a little late bloomer. But even playing 70 games that's a 60 pts guy and he's now really well surrounded. He still has at least 3 good years as a fantasy asset.
Steen may be the most undervalued player in the NHL. I wish he would not be on the band aid boy border, but he is. He is the most versatile player in the league. Probably trading him is the worst trade cliff fletcher made( and how did that happen 2 days before Burke took over?) ( I think it was a Burke I'm taking over just do it trade)
I like Steen, I like the cap hit, not the biggest fan of the term but I'm sure it's a major reason Steen didn't get a pay rise
Experience is the teacher of all things.
Completely agree: great and undervalued player. He brings tenacity all over the ice (very good forechecker) and has a very high hockey IQ.
One of the best forwards in the league to play the point on the PP.
Versatile and respected leader in St-Louis, no problem with the salary even if by the 4th year he could be on the decline.
Points-only keeper league. 12 teams. Keep any 12 players. Dress 12F - 6D - 2G.
Technically the decline has already begun. His goals and points per game have been steadily dropping the last 2yrs since his breakout fantasy season in 13-14. And again the constant injuries for any 32yr old athlete is bad news, eventually you don't recover like you used to and the end comes real fast.
Not trying to bash the guy, he's a very good player. I've just made it a point to nitpick every long-term deal handed out to a 30+ yr old this summer(Ladd, Backes, Brouwer) after my Oilers got so much flak for paying a 28yr old, never been injured, Lucic.
