What exactly is going on there? Anyone know whether Hellebuyck will start on the NHL roster or not? Is this still up in the air or has the team stated their plans yet?

It's still up in the air as far as I know. I think Helle is going to have to play his way into the starting spot.

this is nothing official... just speculation from all the Jets fans in Manitoba here... they think Hellebuyck will start in the minors because the Jets cannot afford to lose anyone on waivers. This has been the speculation ever since they re-signed/extended Hutch.

Like I said.. this is fan talk/media not from Team sources.

For me, nothing has changed over the summer. With both Pavelec and Hutch still signed, I think Hellebuyck starts in the AHL. I think he will get recalled if injuries occur but other than that, or unless a trade happens, he will get one more year of AHL experience.

Helle is still on a 2-way. And both Pavelec and Hutchinson under contract this season. If I was betting on it I'd put my money on him only getting called up if there's an injury and would get sent back down after whomever got hurt returns. Next season is the bigger question mark.

I suppose given the fact Hutchinson has a 2 year deal says Hellebuyck starts in the AHL. I know they could probably sneak Hutch through waivers but for a budget conscious team that seems like a waste of money they could have just avoided by not extending him and promoting Helle.

I think it was for the expansion draft that they had to sign Hutch, and the fallout of Helle likely starting in the AHL was a necessary evil.

Carbon copy of last season. Starts in the minors. Pavs poops the bed or tears something. Hell boy arrives in town and outplays Hutch to earn the starting gig, and hopefully carry the Jets into the playoffs (slight change from last season).

That's exactly what he's going to get; in the AHL.

The Winnipeg AHL affiliate is based in... wait for it... Winnipeg! The NHL and AHL teams play under the same roof.

The organization has all their goalies under one roof. They just need to get their goalies contracts in order.

I'll tell ya what's a shame, it's that so many don't consider Pavelec a solid NHL goalie; which in fact he is.

The Jets are in no hurry for Hellebuyck and are fine with him continuing to develop his game while playing a ton in the AHL. There's nothing wrong with that. As fantasy owners, we all want the next great thing to come and help our fantasy roster, but the actual Winnipeg Jets are quite comfortable and confident in Pavelec.
