Zaitsev has the better odds of making the team, but Carrick has the higher ceiling. For this year I would go Zaitsev, but by next summer the answer is probably Carrick.
For the league in my signature. (SHOG = Shootout goals, not shots and d-men goals are worth 2 pts instead of just 1)
For this year only (since I have no room on my farm team).
Both seem to be competing for a job this year in Toronto. Who do you think has the better odds of making the team?
Thanks!
On a fantasy hockey break.

Zaitsev's on a 2-way contract and Carrick on a 2 year, l-way so all things being equal and their quality of play is close, Carrick will play ahead of Z this year.
I honestly can't see Zaitsev honouring the two way element of the deal... He is over to play in the NHL or he'll be back in Russia. Think Zaitsev starts ahead of Carrick and then it's a crapshoot as both have to prove they belong
Experience is the teacher of all things.
I don't think we have a clue what Z's ceiling is. He had a specific role in Russia. You may see more in NHL. Personally I see him(based on the little I've seen) as a more complete pkg at this point.
Carrick will be a 6-7 defenseman this year spelling MM & Polak from time to time.
Carrick has some good tools. The question is will he put it together?

I dont know if there's any guarantees from either player. The Leafs seem high on both but my personal preference is Carrick.

Zaitsev has a bomb of a shot and in your pool format I'll take zaitsev for sure.

Zaitsev, especially with the scoring in your league.
I'd be taking Zaitsev in this format. I think he gets better look by Leaf brass.

Zaitsev this year... and I'm on record for saying he'll crack 40pts. That said what Carrick did in the AHL playoffs last year was remarkable 18pts (7g) in 15 games, including a 5pt game. Carrick is a fantastic sleeper pick in deep pools. He's a bull on the boards as well. He's going to force some interesting line up decisions for Babcock this year - that's for sure.
