Patches and Wheeler is probably a smidge much in return for Malkin. What other players does said GM own?
I have a guy interested in Malkin, offering me Wheeler. It's a points only league, 12 teams, I'm set at C, and have no current RW to keep.
It's technically a 4 sport league, but even keeping it within the hockey world, what sort of 2nd player would you want in return with Wheeler?
Or would you say this is a straight up no go? He's also dangled Pacioretty instead of Wheeler, but I have lots of LW currently....
12 team, keep 13 (4 sport league)
3pts per goal, 2 per assist, 2 per SHG
5pts per win, 3 per shutout, 0.2 per save, -1 per GA
Forwards
Center-Kuznetsov, Matthews, Barkov, Johansen, Guentzel
LW-Panarin, Voracek, Granlund
RW-Pavelski, Wheeler, Kane
Defense
Shattenkirk, Carlson, Weber, Brodie, Markov
Goalies
Murray, Allen, Hellebuyck, Budaj, MAF, Halak
IR-Stamkos

This is where it gets confusing. Since it's a 4 sport league, and we are coming up on our deadline for keepers, I actually don't have room to take on another hockey player, so it will be Wheeler(or Pac) and another player in a different sport.
But I was more curious what sort of player, what tier or rank range to ask for in return, and I can find a comparable player in another sport for the deal.

I'm happy to look at the three other teams and discuss that. If you don't feel like going through it, maybe the best I could come up with is Patches' teammate in A. Galchenyuk. A young player that has already put up decent stats and has good potential for more, plus Wheeler, in exchange for Malkin. Some may disagree and say that's too much, and it's entirely possible that your fellow GM would see it the same way. Understandable. That's what I would look for though, and if it's Malkin and a small piece for Wheeler and Galchenyuk, I probably still do it.
Hope that helps!

Thanks, major upvote for you. Might see if he'll do Devin Funchess in football. His initial offer is Christian Yelich, but I'm not super stoked on him.

Yelich has had a good season, but I agree, his ceiling is a little more limited. Also Yelich is an OF, and they are so much easier to acquire than anything else in baseball.
Funchess would be a very solid add if you could pull that out. I like it.

I'd take Wheeler and pretty any guy who is likely to be a productive roster player for you in the next year, maybe two that has some likelihood of multi-year use for Malkin without cap issues constraining you. Getting cross-sport throw-ins out of season, when the season is upcoming are a great way to add value sneakily.
Funchess certainly works.
