If he's still available now, he'll still be available later. I don't think he's worth picking up for a while yet, if at all.

If you have a roster spot then he's worthy of having. Depends who you'd have to drop or how deep your farm already is. He's got a promising future.

Yeah, I see you have 30 spots....if there's one open and it doesn't cost you anything then there's no harm in speculating on him. I own him, too, in a similar league size, and it would be hard to drop him personally...
Scored 6 fewer goals than the league leader in 8 fewer games...

Who else is available I guess the obvious question would be?

Yes, he's coming to NYR camp and will likely play in the AHL for this year.

I think Gordie Clark has done a very effective job finding quality talent in later rounds that have become NHL players. Kovacs is another example of his evaluation and NY's drafting style. From what little I have seen of the kids game, he has very good wheels and can handle the puck at speed. Regardless of his offensive upside I think there are roster spots available for these kinds of players. At only 19 years old clearly the jury is still out on his offensive upside, but the hustle and grit are already there.
Its best to temper ones expectations of players like Kovacs, but looking at NY's roster it might a bit tough to crack the roster going forward as Jeff Gorton has quite a few very effective players under 25 years old who play forward. He could pave his way to the show with his defensive prowess and surprise with his finishing but that will become more apparent this upcoming season in the AHL (assuming that is where he ends up playing)
Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.
