What would be your advise to somebody who doesn't know anything about football and was just talked into joining a fantasy league to have an even number of teams.

It's a 10 team league, head to head.

My problem is, that i know 5 NFL players in total, so what i need is a general strategy about which positions to target when and maybe a good source for a player ranking. When do it take a kicker and a defense and will they make a big difference ? Every help is much appreciated, please help me.

My rule I always follow is that the last round of the draft is for kickers. See the NFL Mock Draft - Picks Only Thread... we did a mock draft if you want to use it for guidance.

Some people will take a kicker before the last round. but I always like to wait until last round because you are going to drop them during their bye week.

Defense - I might take earlier then the second last round if you are able to get a top-end Defence that you can rely on week in and week out. I usually stream (pick up different defenses based on matchups) and therefore wait until the 2nd last round for a defense.

Wait on quarterbacks! I always try to fill my RB and WR before drafting a QB. unless a guy like Newton or Rogers slips to the 4th round.

Watch for bye weeks... don't pick a player based entirely on their bye weeks... but later in the draft (like when you are filling your bench) if you are deciding between a couple players... look at when their bye week is and make sure it is not the same as the guy you drafted in the first round.. Ideally the guy you pick later in draft will only see the lineup when your top guys are on bye week.

Can't say better than that. TE is easy to wait on too.
But yeah, the mock draft should give you a good idea on how some of us approached things.

I will probably not only use it, but copy it one by one.

Thanks for the link. Are there any picks that you think are standing out in a good or bad way?

Everyone has different opinions on picks, and no one is wrong until the games start. That's the fun in fantasy sports.

The best I can do in terms of opinions is link you to our mock draft discussion thread where a couple of picks got discussed (good or bad). Bomm also has some thoughts on the draft in a couple of his most recent rants on the dobber football site if you want to check those out.

The guys above summed it up quite well.

Another thing I like to do is read as many reports as possible (much like hockey). Yahoo actually has some pretty good fantasy football articles (it's really the only thing they cover half decently imo). And of course Dobber football.

I don't even draft a kicker or a D if my draft is early enough in the year. I'll draft some positional battle long shots, and usually just end up dropping them and streaming some kicker/D.

There's 16-22 options available after the draft 99% of the time, so you won't be out of luck finding a replacement.

What are your strategies in a 2QB 14 man league?

QBs for me would then jump up closer to the RB/WR territory as you would not want to be scraping the bottom of the barrel on QBs. At least for your QB1 anyways.

    I’d go 2 different routes with 2QBs.
    1.
Either get 1 elite, and try and get this yrs Bortles, Cousins, Fitzpatrick. Someone who will get you points, but not the same as Newton and such company. So a Rodgers, Wilson, Brady + Dalton, Fitz, Ryan, Carr2.

    2. Go for 2 very good QBs, but with middle picks. Big Ben, Rivers, Brees, Romo, Palmer

I just keep this in mind when I am drafting and go with the flow of the draft. 1 yr I did 2 elite QBs because they were there in the draft and did well (I think it was Brady and Brees).

thanks for you help so far, i checked you draft results and i think i will go for RB and WR in the first 5-6 rounds, then go for one or two decent QB and fill the rest by just picking the best player available with K, TE and DEF at the end.

I will create a mix of the dobber football ranking and you draft picks. I guess that should be good enough to not finish last, which would be great already.
