I can see the Leafs keeping Marner past 9 games. And I can see that working out for the Leafs just as well as it did for the Oilers with Draisaitl.

lol I only have the one with you... though I forget what it is right now!

Juolevi hadn’t signed his ELC when those rumours came out I think. So the agent was threatening to jettison off to a Euro Pro team for his first contract. Anyone can do that, however it’s career suicide unless you dominate.

That's not totally true actually.
They technically could loan him. There isn't any direct rule against that. However due to the agreement the NHL and CHL have in place, the Knights have right of first refusal if the Leafs were to offer to loan him, essentially meaning they could block the loan and keep him in London. So it wouldn't happen.
And it's not really where the player has played that determines where they can play. It's a little more complicated than that. Goldobin played two years in the OHL, but because of a loophole due to him being an import, the Sharks were able to loan him out to a team in the SM-Liiga. Similarily, because Honka was technically "loaned" to the Swift Current Broncos in his draft year (or loopholed to retroactively be loaned), he was able to play in the AHL before his Junior eligibility expired. Alex Nylander signed a deal with his SHL team but was then loaned to the Steelheads to ensure that he had the option of playing in the AHL if his team (now Buffalo) decided it was best.

Does he stay with the big club or does he get sent down this year? What's everyone thinking now?
I still think he sticks and puts up a solid amount of points.

Agreed he sticks... with a mix of prospects and NHL pros/vets - Marner is still standing out as one of the best players on the ice... the real test comes between Oct5-10 when the rosters have been cut to 30 or so around the league. That will tell the tale.
There will be no repeat of Draisaitl. if he makes it, he performs.

He makes it, Lupul officially being hurt helps him out a ton.
I bet he ends up on a line of JvR-Kadri-Marner to end the season, or like Nylander-Matthews-Marner. But to start the season he could very well be on a line of Martin-Bozak-Marner.
My god do I hope it’s a line of Nylander-Matthews-Marner. Do I ever.

In fairness I may have humble pie to eat as he is looking good in pres season so maybe he does out last those 9 games... Long time to go yet though

He plays 65 games and gets 36 points

anything less than 70 points this season has to be considered a disappointment
