I wonder if this isn't a case of Liriano having a higher "ceiling". I don't believe TOR sees anything super special or clutch out of Hutch so what you see is what you get [a 4-5 rotation guy who you hope doesn't get knocked around too much over 5-6 innings]. Liriano has had some moments that hint at a much more consistent, starting arm. Yes, he costs more. Worst case scenario you're getting essentially the same thing as Hutch gives you [albeit at more money]. Better case scenario, he finds some consistency working once again with Martin behind the plate and the Jays get a #4 LHP which allows them to move Sanchez to the pen [a move I don't like, but seems inevitable...I'm worried this messes with Sanchez's routine he's established as a starter and he might not be as effective].
Time will tell, but what the Jays needed most was pitching and it looks like they're addressing that [without paying a premium for a superstar like they did for Price last year].
