Thanks for the update.
If I remember right the opening was on Thursdays the last couple of seasons. Is it just a coincidence or could we expect it already on August 18th?
EDIT: It's open!
If we are to believe Yahoo staff, they've told me they expect fantasy hockey to open around the same time as last year, which was around August 20th or so.
We can discuss and/or update this thread as we get closer if anyone receives more information.Hi Brandon,
Thank you for getting back to us.
You can expect the games to open around the same times they did last year. I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.
If there is anything else that I can do for you, please let me know.
Warm Regards,
Julia

One of the best things going for fantasy hockey & Yahoo these days is NHL's agreement with MLBam.
Now that NHL is focused on their e-world... they should be also considering (strongly) the extra traffic & fanbase that could be generated through a well-groomed fantasy hockey platform.
It's been kinda lightly covered by 2 guys on NHL.com over the past three+ years (Matt Cubeta & Pete Jensen).
And NHL.com has simply referenced the world of Yahoo! Fantasy Hockey... but I don't think there is a strong/ OFFICIAL link between NHL.com and Yahoo! Fantasy Hockey.

I've now switched tact and decided that if we ever want REAL change... our complaints shouldn't go to Yahoo... but should be directed to the NHL.com website, criticizing what a lazy/crappy platform Yahoo has for customer service to fantasy hockey fans.
I'm not really sure who MLB.com links in for their fantasy world - but hopefully it is NOT Yahoo and hopefully NHL.com will either push towards another platform OR get Yahoo! to fix the bugs we dislike.

From a Forbes article that I read recently, it should actually help propel the platform to the next level:
Yahoo is responsible for bringing in over $200 million per year in annual revenue from its fantasy sports products alone. Much of the revenue is derived from advertising fees related to its season-long fantasy products, including the advertising derived from its mobile applications.
The company’s (Verizon) revenue from daily fantasy sports products pales in comparison, with estimates of it hovering around $5 million annually. But the daily fantasy sports industry is still in its infancy and it has navigated through legal and governmental struggles in the past year. Verizon may see both daily fantasy sports and season-long fantasy to be unique opportunities for growth through acquisition.
...Through its massive database of customers, Verizon could easily push Yahoo fantasy applications, acquiring new users and enhancing advertising revenues.

Ya well their podcasts have pretty much stopped over the past couple weeks so I wouldn't be surprised if it;s all because of their merger.
Either way it's ridiculous that they can literally start producing football articles 6 months before the season starts......and not even have our hockey leagues even open 2 months before the season!

There it is. It's all in the numbers.
Sometimes I wish that hockey was as popular as American football and wouldn't get the step-child treatment in the media all the time, but then I see how full of drama and bullshlt football is becoming and I'm just as glad that it's not.
