He skates a lot of minutes and is good for around 20pts, 130ish shots, and a 100+ Hits&BLKS a season. Some PP2 again this year maybe? Does he have 30+ PT seasons in him? My question is do I hold onto a player like that long or short term. Also at only 25 does he continue to build on those numbers? Dynasty League counts D-pts as well as hits+blks

30 points isn't out of the question but I doubt it becomes the norm, especially now that he is expected to stay in NY.

Ya my thinking is along the same lines. I don't know wether I wana justify his cap# for those kind of stats.

In fantasy hockey, he's decent value for the cap because of his peripherals. If you are looking for a lot of offense from your defense, you are doing it wrong. In multi-cat leagues, your D should primarily be used for the hits/blocks, etc and let your forwards do the scoring. If your D is offensive, consider that a bonus!

I have J.Faulk and T.Barrie already. Sekera as well on a 1.25 hit compared to Hamonics 2.25 hit. Also have Phaneuf at 3.25 Just deciding how I want to proceed. Dion I think continues his 30pt for a few more seasons. I think I could replace Hams stats and get a lil bit of savings. At the same time im torn. With the D-pts cat I've put a lil more value to scoring Dmen. That being said my team as whole looks pretty solid and I could replace Ham with A.Mcquaid, I'd lose about 10pts and 40-50sog but gain the cap flexibility and still have the HIT/BLK covered. I'm new to the dynasty format so I'm still feeling it out.

Totally agree with this. Both my leagues are multi-cat and unless he's putting up higher end offensive numbers for a D man, I'm looking for at least decent peripheral production. I suppose this could be different in a league where hit/blocks are weighted differently than offensive stats, but if I can grab say, a 30-ish point guy who helps lock down 2-3 secondary categories each week, it's hard for me to justify taking a 40 point guy who is one dimensional.

He does have it in him to hit 30 pts as he did it 2 years ago, but don't expect anything crazy like 35+. His multi-cat performance is solid, but you can find similar ''less-sexy'' names out there that can give you as much bang for your buck.

He's a better hockey player than he is a ''fantasy hockey'' player
