    Default not sexy choices, but.....

I have the option of starting drouin in minors to begin season which means I have an open keeper spot....FA list is pretty slim ...here are a few choices

    vanek

    hagelin
    antoine Roussel
    Tom Wilson
    reader
    vlasic
    jonny boychuk

I would say the safest pick is Marleau ( which isn't overly safe because of his age) but:

Vanek - so streaky and I am not a fan.
Hagelin - speed but no hands
Roussel - more of a grit guy
Wilson - no room for him in the top 6 in Wash
Reader - just not the same as he was a few years ago, can't seem to score anymore
Vlasic - this is a decent option If you want a consistent d-man
Boychuk - I prefer the other NYI d-men going forward Leddy, Hamonic, Pulock

only reason I included Roussel and Wilson was for my hits blocks pims categories.....some of the better options for those cats

I am usually not a fan of keeping players just for Hits and Pims in H 2 H leagues. I would rather have a guy that has 50 point potential because points are worth more in H 2 H leagues.

I would go with Marleau and hope he has something left in the tank.

Not sure how the lines will shake out in SJ with the Boedker signing but Marleau might win out even strength. I could see him back on a line with Couture or perhaps Hertl moves down off L1, definitely a step up from Nieto and Ward.

He should still get PP1 time even with Boedker in the mix. He doesn't help in the peripheral department but he should be a plus in the offensive cats.

Could be wrong but I think he means Rieder not Read. But he's rumoured to be headed to the KHL so strike him off the list.

Out of that group it's a slam dunk for Marleau. Still a productive player on a great team.

Have to disagree with your thread title... Marleau still has some sex appeal.

Easy choice for me on that list

    ....
    Wilson and Vlasic

Call me crazy but I might just hold on to Tom Wilson. If he gets a sniff at a scoring line he is going to be a BEAST in your league.

I paused on Wilson when looking at the list as well. PIMS and Hits are draftable yes, but there are only a few players that dominate.
Wilson had 163 PIMS, 253 Hits and 23 points last year. Washington hopes he can be the next Joel Ward. Its probably not worth it, but made me stop and think nonetheless.

Marleau followed by Hagelin (who you hope continues to find magic with Bonino and Kessel) and Wilson who I think can score 30 points while supplying a very good return in your Hits and PIM cats.

I thought about it some more. Tom Wilson. Hands down. It will be harder to acquire a Wilson down the road than a Marleau. For your last keeper you hold on to what is what is unique. This is a competative advantage.

Tom Wilson and Vlasic were the two names that stuck out to me. Marleau is going to be a third line forward, so I would pass on that one.

    Hagelin
    Roussel
    Wilson

You're weaker at LW especially if you start Drouin in the minors. Hagelin showed nicely in Pittsburgh, gotta hope he continues chemistry with Kessel next year.
