5M is the new default contract so you'll find plenty of comparables.

The Habs just a few years ago were balking at giving Markov 5M.... Markov...! DeKeyser gets 5M for 6 years?!? Really is the new default contract. Not sure I've seen anything in his game to justify that kind of cash OR term. Wow..

Crazy.
I guess it does fit with the Wings overpaying some of their local guys.
Dekeyser is a Michigan-boy, like Abdelkader & Glendening who both signed extensions in past year.

I like Dekeyser, but this is too much.
He was a team low -56 in Corsi (shot differential) last year... though he did have to pair up with Kyle Quincey.
But Mike Green & Brenden Smith were +200 each pairing together.

I suppose the Wings are aging though and Kronwall's time is nearing an end.
Detroit doesn't have a lot in the pipeline and since Dekeyser is soon enough to be forced into more TOI, I guess the Wings feel this is warranted.

Like the Helm contract, I think this is $1m too much... but perhaps he's a dynamite lockerroom guy.

I think it looks like a lot right now but will make sense in a year or two. He's only 26 years old and plays a ton of minutes. Kyle Quincey is frigging AWFUL and still hasn't even signed anywhere for a reason. I have a couple buddies who know him personally and say he literally did not give two $hits after he signed his contracts. I guess that doesn't say much about Detroit giving him $4 mil But point is....he sucks.

I think he has committed long term to the D he has developed when the majority of us would agree that the Wings need an external upgrade there... not a hater on DeKEyser but with Mrazek due I would have rather given him this contract and the money they are offering Mrazek to DeKeyse
