    Default Pekka Rinne

    Hi everyone,

I was wondering what you think of Rinne. I don't remember where I read it (think it was THN), it basically said he was averag at best. What's your projection for him? Thoughts on how he should do?

See league #1 in sig. Bolds are projected keeper, and highlighted are maybes. After a few posts, lots of people said it was risky to go into a draft on a keep 12 dynasty without a goalie. Even though I agree with the statement, I wasn't 100% sure on Rinne.

    Would you keep Rinne over:
    - Strome
    or
    - Jones
Is he worth it (specially at 7M$)... do you consider him your #1 starter? I like Nashville for next year and looking back, Rinne wasn't all that bad last year (34 wins).

One pooler has both Holtby and Allen, I might be able to trade for him... but at what cost... And other than his 2.35M$... are they gonna be that far appart?

    Thank you for your advices!

What scares me the most about Rinne is his injury history. He's a scary #1, especially if you do not have a #1b type of goalie (Allen; St. Louis makes him a 1b, I think) as well as a good #3. I do agree with you that Nashville will be a good team, and, barring injuries, Pekka should rack up the wins. He'll go through stretches where he's still an elite goalie, but I think that for the most part, he will be a slightly above average goalie at best.

Let me put it this year; in my salary cap league, my toughest competitor has Rinne. I am not saying anything to him this summer to dissuade him from keeping Rinne an his $7 million price tag.

Depends how many categories rely on goalie stats... Personally I wouldn't want to go into a keeper that size without a proven goalie. Is Rinne in his prime? No. Is he serviceable and guaranteed 55+ starts? Health permitting yes. His cap hit is big but realistically he's probably not worth trading as not sure (m)any would give you value on him.. If you could move the likes of Pieterangelo amd Jones for a bonafide upgrade in net so you could release Rinne I would do that thoigh

If you can swing a deal for Allen, absolutely worth it. Takes away the Rinne or Jones chatter and leaves you as a winner. I'd move any combination of players that you wont hold to better your G position.

I manage to trade Rinne + 2nd round pick (late) for Allen + 6th round pick.

Very happy with the deal, as I have another 2nd round pick and 2 good 3rd round picks.

That leaves me with : last keeper, Strome or Jones.

What do you think of the deal and which would be your last keeper?

which Strome.. if Ryan I probably go Jones based on potential; future trade value

I don't mind that deal for you TBH - you have the surplus for it not to hurt you

    Great deal Berny!

If you could afford the extra million of cap space, I would keep AP over Jones or Strome for what it's worth. If you really can't, then I would keep Jones.

Nice deal for sure, good on you for landing Allen. I would keep Jones.

I think he's going to be an underrated goalie going into next year. Solid guy on a good team.
Allen is a little more injury prone, but it looks like a decent deal all in all considering the salary, age, etc.

Its just that 34 wins is not all that bad. His bad rep comes from his peripheral numbers. The 7M$ was hurting me in a big way. At the end of the day, I see both Allen and Rinne finishing with similar numbers... though Allen now cost me 4.65M$ less... And if he breaks through as he can (has the talent)... still 4M$ after that.

Bass56, you really would AP over Jones? May I ask about your thoughts on why?

Thx guys for all your replies, truly helpful!

This is something I'm hoping for come draft day. I had him this year and made sure to emphasize his struggles to most the league. He still finished decently well under our scoring (pts only. Wins GA, saves). Looking for him to slide to be a good value pick later on
