One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
Flowers for Algernon-Daniel Keyes
Things Fall Apart-Chinua Achebe
Of Mice And Men-John Steinbeck
Are a few that haven't been mentioned, and going all the way back to grade school I can remember having to read "The Incredible Journey" by Sheila Burnford that I really liked. As an adult it is one of the boooks I sought out a first edition for.

Brave New World for me. Never really got into the Shakespeare stuff but I really enjoyed Brave New World and even read it again post high school
Read pretty much all the classics they teach in highschool and Great Gatsby really stood out and resonated with me for some reason. Also really enjoyed Lord of the Flies.
The Shakespeare stuff was way over my head.
For me it was Macbeth. Definitely didn't realize how much this book would affect me. I hated Romeo and Juliet in grade 10, thought Hamlet was super mediocre in grade 11, however, Macbeth in grade 12 changed my life. Shakespeare turned into one of my favourites; along with Macbeth, King Lear and Othello have become my favourite Shakespearean tragedies, while Merchant of Venice and A Misdsummer Night's Dream and Much Ado About Nothing are my favourite comedies from Bill.
I also REALLY enjoyed The Crucible by Arthur Miller. Dark, but amazing.

***In all seriousness, I didn't really like reading much in school but now I love it. Figure I should go back and re-read some classics like Lord of the Flies and The Great Gatsby eventually.
Without me, it's only "aweso".
LOL! Throwing it back to Ogre.
Honestly, I loved reading when I was a kid, but there wasn't too many books I was forced to read that I can say I "enjoyed". Lord of the Flies was ok, and I didn't hate 1984 or Animal Farm.

As an English teacher this thread makes me happy (especially since a bunch of the books I teach are here!)
No love for Heart of Darkness? Ha!
I teach O'Brien's The Things They Carried -- loved by almost all. Worth the read for sure!
Ender's Game - grade 8
The Outsiders - grade 9
Same here!! Wasn't a fan of Romeo and Juliet the first time I read it. Then I watched the movie with DiCaprio and I was not crazy about it but it helped me better understand certain parts of the story. When I re-read the book a few years later in one of my classes, I got to enjoy it more than the first read. Come to think of it, it's one of the few books I've read more than once...
