    Default Gillies vs Sorokin

    Jon Gillies vs Ilya Sorokin
I assume most wil say gillies is the better guy to own. but even if that is the case, how much better is he than Sorokin (I can probably get Sorokin plus some other decent prospects for gillies)? Sorokin looks like he's got a job waiting for him when he comes over from the khl, and gillies looks like he's 2-3 years away from even getting a backup role. I know Sorokin isn't coming over for 2 more years (probably) and everything is based off of his one amazing season this pas year, but I feel like he's as good a guarantee as any prospect is to become john Tavares' starting goalie as soon as halak's contract runs out in 2 years.
Sorokin was at the islanders developmental camp last week, so I assume that takes care of any fears that he won't come over from the khl.

It'll be interesting to see what Sorokin will do for an encore this season. Gillies is going to be really good in a couple of years. But right now, If I had to choose between these two to have on my team in 3 years, I'd want Sorokin. Those KHL numbers are just insanely good. I realize he played with a really strong team, but regardless - 10 SO in 28 games.

I will be following him closely this year and trying to nab him in my prospect draft in Sept.

I like them both. Sorokin I think has a slightly higher ceiling, but higher probability is that he ends up behind Gillies in terms of talent/value. Gillies definitely has the higher floor in my opinion.

Sorokin comfortably... gotta think the Isles goaltending contracts are set up for him to roll on in too when he is ready

In my sig , it shows that I own both , so that's why this thread interested me .
Unbiased opinion : I like both obviously but Sorokin gets the edge IMO , nice situation when he's ready in two years . Gillies will have to beat out a starter (probably Elliott and Elliott is resilient)

Pretty close IMO, but Halak won't be around in Long Island in two years when Sorokin is ready to come over to North America while Elliott seems to have staying power as Poolsharks mentioned.

I am very interested in this thread. . I like Gillies, I just don't know enough about Sorokin.. I can't pick one when I really only know the one goalie..

SOROKIN for me as well. For reasons mentioned above. If you can wait 2 years then jump all over SOROKIN. I know I will. Plan on drafting him this year and letting him marinate in my minors

Team Gillies for me. I do not put any faith in a single season worth of stats especially when it comes from a goalie in the KHL. The team he played for scored twice as many goals as they gave up. They had 3 goalies with more than 15 games played who had GAAs in the 1s. When one of those goalies was Viktor Fasth, it tells me that the team was extremely good.

isles are trying to trade halak (heard he asked for a trade + they were not pleased with his work ethic/attitude last year).obviously there really isnt a buyer for jaro at the moment but that can always change with injuries etc.

I can see greiss being a short and possibly long term solution to a 1a,1b setup with jf berube initially then with sorokin ? soderstrom ? williams ?

or , I've heard isles were kicking tires on Bishop too who would need to be signed beforehand if isles are giving up serious assets for him .(bolts allowed calgary to talk to BB's agent around draft time so they could extend same idea to snow)

its great the isles have a legit goalie prospect in sorokin but I wouldnt bank on him becoming the king of new york anytime soon

Perhaps not his BEST, but certainly a memorable and highly entertaining role nonetheless.
