Comments on HfBoards about Andreas Athanasiou-
"Well, he's faster than Larkin, and Larkin is really, really, really fast. AA's probably the fastest guy in the league."
"He's fast."
"Kid has sick speed."

Or a restraining order?
Experience is the teacher of all things.
His wrist shot and his goal scoring instinct are lightyears away from Pavel Bure. He has the speed and the hockey sense, but that's it.
I don't think people underrate him, you are just way too high on that guy. He's one of the better prospects in the Detroit system and he has a good chance to make it to the NHL (he actually already did), but he's not going to be anything special.
Wings fan here. Watched him play in Grand Rapids as well. He has great speed and a solid shot. However, I see him as a high end 3rd liner or low end 2nd liner. 50-55 points in a career year.
I like the kid but 60-70 points is alot in todays nhl .
Oh man I'm going to bump this thread when he starts rockin and rollin out of the gate this season. 45 pts this year for athanasiou. Book it
0.61 PPG in the AHL does not scream "70+ points in the NHL" but maybe that's just me... But could be a very good middle-six 50 point forward.
was draisaitl guaranteed a spot on the oilers at the start of last season? not comparing the players in general but just because you're not guarenteed a spot on the deal won't mean you wont have success, and just as if you are guaranteed a spot on the team doesnt mean u will have success. things happen. im making my bold prediction on this kid and sticking with it.
I love AA as much as the next guy (OK maybe not as much as StuntMan).
The question is not whether the kid can score or not. He can. He did so in London and in Barrie... no question he has elite speed (probably one of [if not] the fastest player in the league). Kid has sick mitts too.
The question is whether or not management will give him a role in the top six or utilize his speed and sense and mould him into a bottom six shut down guy (new generation Kris Draper) that can put some points on the board. My money is on the latter. Artem Anisimov type numbers (40-50 points).

If I had to guess....based on how the Wings have operated forever.....here is their lineup
Abdelkader - Zetterberg - Larkin
Nyquist - Nielsen - Vanek
Tatar - Sheahan - Helm
Miller/AA/Mantha/Jurco/Ott/Vitale - Glendening - Same as LW
Until they move a forward I can't see AA getting top 6 minutes or getting more time than Nyquist or Tatar. They lovvvvvvvvvvve Drew Miller so I can almost guarantee he'll see a ton of action.
